Cleaning exhaust tips

Just wondering what everyones method of cleaning your exhaust tips are.

I live up in the Northeast, so I'm getting the crap that bakes on to the tips and I'd like to remove it without scuffing up the tips.

I was thinking of driving the truck around for a bit so the tips are hot, possible loosening up some of the junk, but what else should I use, such as what cleaner and what kind of brush?

Use "The Works". When I had the boat with two big blocks in it with thru hull exhaust, the chrome tips were always nasty after a day in the water. Baked on water deposits w/ the blue green tinting. The Works just squeeze on and watch it disappear.

I've never tried it, but I've *heard* that #0000 steel wool works great. Then polish them up and put a coat of good synthetic wax on them.
