looking for reccomendation

I want to wax my 05 fx4, it's silver/charcoal. In the past I have always just bought turtle wax or something, after reading all these post I guess I have alot to learn. What is a good polish and wax I can buy at walmart or pep boys and in your opinion what steps should I take? I'm talking about the clay everyone is mentioning, then polish, then wax etc.sorry if this question has already been asked.

this question is asked almost daily. Are you glad you posted it? Ok Sarcasm out of the way. you can pick up some Megs 3 step products at a store near you.

Clearner/Wax isn't bad. It will get you started. I would recomend that you Clay the surface first otherwise you are really just grinding in more stuff into the clear.

Again, that will get you started but I hve to warn you, this is just the beginning. Simply by posting you want some help means that you secretly want to become an OCD detailer.

It starts off with a little 3 step here, then some MF there, soon you are free basing PoorBoys EX-P and chasing it with some MooseWax. Trust me, I see it all the time. Next thing you know, you are Mixing Megs #21 with Cola and having Hyperdressing for desert.

Cheers

I know, I'm still a noob. Don't even have a PC yet. I can still get a chuckle out of the situation, though...

I am more partial to #34 and Absolut, but that's just me...BTW-- I cant believe you drink HD for dessert: I prefer Nattys Red.

Don't know about pep boys. It's 250 miles to the nearest one from me.

As for walmart I'm paticular to zymol. Used it for years (before ocd kicked in)
I think it's a great one stepper if you are doing it by hand or don't have a ton of time. Just be careful and don't get it on the plastic. It'll white mark it up big time.

If you have enough time I'd go with the Meg's 3 step as well.

yes, yes, yes on the clay bar. Used Meg's and Mother's. both worked fine for me.

What condition is the paint in? Normally, it's hard to notice swirls (marring) on silver paint. If that is the case with your vehicle, you could pick up a Mothers or Meguiar's clay kit... and clay away!

Then I would then recommend Mothers FX Snywax, which looks very nice on silver. It also has moderate cleaners to clean the paint and remove very light marring. You might also want to pick up some Mothers Reflections Top Coat. It has no cleaners, and is a nice topper over FX Synwax.

Let us know if you have more serious swirls, or scratches, as that will require some additional recommendations.
