New paint job...What to do about waxing?

2004 Screw was one of many victims of a neighborhood egging

Whole truck being repainted factory black by Ford...

Question is... What are your recommendations to get this new paint job protected and looking great? How long should I wait?

I do already own a PC 7424.

Thanks!

Kevin

Id wash weekly and I heard Megs #5 is good to use on fresh paint. But I wouldnt wax, seal, or polish for 2-5 months.

I just had the passenger side of my truck repainted after it was keyed. The body shop told me not to wax the truck for 60 days. You can wash it as you normally would.

Ask your body shop for recommendations on how long you should wait. Different coatings from different manufacs will have different specs...

BASF, Sherwin Williams, Dupont, PPG, ICI, Spies, MSP... all of them have a 'manufacturer's recommended time' for curing.... if they 'bake' your paint (unlikely with most shops), the paint will already be catylized and ready to roll (odds are highly against this).

As for maintenance until curing. I don't recommend *ANY* products other than standard washing with a high-quality wash product (no wash & wax products). Further, you need to really tone up on the washing/drying techniques -- black is an absolute booger. Trust me.

Not trying to be a smart a** but shouldn't you be asking the people that are gonna paint it?

That's like asking the dealer techs why it broke.
