trim detailer running

Hey guys,

When I use Meg's exterior trim detailer, it always seems to run down my door panels if/when it rains. I don't think that i'm using to much, i'm using enough to make the plastic shine.

Anyone else have this problem??

Just use less??

No-- people using 303 Aerospace protectant have the same problem...I dont think there is anything you can do...

I always apply with a tire dressing sponge and let it dry for a few hours. Wipe it down with a piece of paper towel or rag. I don't have any problems.

How's Meg's #40 on rubber window trim? I absolutely love that stuff on my tires.

You can but, use Thumper's application recommendation.

Also, be aware that nothing out there is perfect for this type of application -- at least nothing that I've found - especially on dark paint that shows the streaking after moisture.

I don't get it when some of you say the 303 runs off. I have never had this problem. Are you guys using too much or something? I don't spray it on the plastic either, spray it on the cloth and then wipe. Just puts a nice, thin coat on. I let it dry for a few hours and then do it again. In fact, I just did it last weekend and then it rained during the week. It just repels the water beautifully and doesn't run at all.

5 days later of almost anything with temps in the mid 95's for high and 78 for a low, i would guess it would have dried by then...little rain come by...streaks...i have even gotten streaks from heavy dew....dont know what it is but i guess just trust us this stuff streaks....303, silicone, vrp, meg, mothers....

i have come to the point of once vehicle/truck is done....use the last towel used for touch ups with detail spray for the little spots missed like door jams, wheel wells, panel seams, exhaust...what ever....i spray detailer over the bed caps and rear bumper, mirrors...all of the plastic stuff and wipe it off...it seems to leave enough 303 on the plastic for a very clean look and protection from fading, but it severly reduces the risk of running....a tip i found that works for me...dont use your best micros for this...i have a 3 pile method...#1 towel is new pristine...#2 is clean and stained towel...#3 towel is used for final touch up in the wheel well lips, exhaust, wheels....the stuff you dont want to use a new towel on.

Heh I have the same exact method. Oh and since my plastic isn't faded and I keep up with it, I either use Wax As U Dry on my plastic (and soft tonneau cover) or more recently Ultimate Detailer. No runs what so ever and I'm liking the relentless beading effect on my cover from the UQD. Wax As U Dry seems to have some good cleaning ability to it since the first few applications of it, it would pull crap off the cover onto my microfiber that normal washing wouldn't (kinda like a clay bar would pull crap off the paint that normal washing wouldn't) and also my front grills where starting to fade slightly when I bought the truck used but is now back to a nice dark new grey showroom finish (Wax As U Dry also seems to remove oxidation well too!)

If you're past the stage of normal maintenance and your plastic is already damaged from the sun fading it out, I doubt my method will work you. But if you're plastic is still in good shape it's a great maintenance method that absolutely will keep your plastic (and tonneau cover) looking exactly showroom condition with absolutely no running what-so-ever from rain (have you ever heard of a wax or detail mist that streaks from getting wet?)

I absolutely will not use products that attract dust or streak on any part of my vehicles.
