Clay bar & Decals

Been lurking in these forums for some time now, but rarely post....

Thought I'd post what is probably a noobie question....

Should we be cautious when clay barring around the "4 X 4" decals on our 4 X 4 F-150's? I'm concerned that the clay bar would start to peel the decal off the truck...but maybe I shouldn't worry about it?

Your thoughts...?

I havn't had any problems myself with peeling but if I get too close some of the claybar will stick in the corner where the decal meets the metal. not a big deal through. Just my experience with them. Might happen.

Sounds like you try to avoid the decal all together, then? Makes sense, I suppose...

x2. (for me, it is the Sport decal, not the 4x4-- I have a 4x2)

Yep. Your best bet is just to get close--

OR.............

Set the bar on top of the decal and swipe outwards (off the decal). This allows you to have clayed the area around it without having an extensive cleanup of clay or peeling of the sticker.

Have fun!

I have only clayed the FX4 once and had no problems around the decals, used detail spray liberally and maybe that helped. I never even thouht it might be a problem but you are right, it could catch, so I will watch it next time.

Great advice....just what I was looking for! I think I'll just try to get close to the decal without actually claying it during my next detail.

I just clayed over it the last time I did it and it didnt seem to be bad, but I'll probably avoid it now.
