Gel-Coat?

Anyone know? Do you need to do anything special to take care of it? Regular auto wax okay? I'm shooting in the dark here. What about soap? I know we use a special soap for the RV for the fiberglass, so I'm guessing use the same? . . or would car wash soap be okay? This is for a PWC.

You'll find that gelcoat is actually a bit tougher to take care of than paint. Although it looks great when new, it is much more prone to oxidation if left unprotected than paint. I'd recommend a trip to the local marine (boat) supply house. Most boats use gelcoat as the outer most layer and a good grade of marine wax will really help your RV.

Thump, on my skis with white gel coat, I just keep a good coat of Meg's on them about once a month during riding season. I rinse them down after using them in salt water, then wipe them down with detailing spray. Only takes a few minutes since they are small, but it keeps them looking mint.

On my blue and red Yamaha's, I use marine wax, forgot what kind off the top of my head.

What kind of ski did you get?

I'm planning on waxing it before it hits the water.

A SeaDoo RXP215, red/white.

Sweet ski but...another Sea Doo fan

if you take it in salt, remember to spray the motor down with WD40 to keep corrosion to a minimum.

I won't take it in salt, maybe brackish but not salt.

Thump,

Missed the part about it being for a PWC. I stand by my advice though. Just to add a bit, a marine environment is very tough. Your gelcoat will get drilled from all angles by UV's - which can lead to oxidation. (I had a guy ask me last week if I thought he should wax his boat to prevent oxidation. It was 5 years old. I had to resist the temptation to tell him he was about 4.9 years too late.) That's why a good marine wax will really help. They're designed to block more UV's. Good luck!

Is there any other answer besides Meguiars? I've used the Meguiar's Oxidation removal kit before and it worked wonders on my 34 year old gel coat.

Yes, Meg's makes a darn good line. I saw a report a number of years ago placing Collonite Fleet Wax pretty far up on the list too. I've used Zaino on my boat for years, but it's not a fair test because it's covered all the time.

Yeah, my boat is going to be covered all the time. I guess I'll order the Boat/RV package from ADS for the twenty something bucks. I plan on just putting a coat of NXT on it for the time being though.

Which one? The new ownership package? I think you'll be fine with a bottle of the Meguiar's Polish (#45) and Meguiar's Pure Wax (#56).

Thump, build yourself a dolly with heavy duty caster wheels, with rails the same height as your trailer. Back up the trailer, slide off the ski onto the dolly and wheel over into the quiet corner of the garage out of the elements. Slap a PWC cover on it to keep the dust off......Yup, I spoil my 1200 R Yami's

Thats too much damn work, we've got a huge shop at our property. I'll just back my truck in the shop with the trailer, shut the door. Voila!

I'm going in about 30 minutes so I'll post pictures later tonight.
