i am painting my truck black now that my rims and tires have come in. I was planning on goin to maaco and i am getting mixed reactions. Some people say they do a good job, but other say they will destroy my car.

You get what you pay for - a cheap paint job. Black is the worst, every little imperfection will be very noticeable.

Everything Maaco I've seen is cheap. Flaking after a few months, fading. If you want a good paint job - spend some money.

I had a tree limb fall on my hood and I had Maaco fix mine and that was over a year and a half ago. They did a good job and I havent had any trouble out of it...... When I was there I did notice that they can paint your car for cheap, but there were different grades of paint that you could choose from. They started out at a couple of hundered bucks and went up to well over a couple of thousand dollars..... You do get what you pay for, but that is anywhere you go. If you are going with black I def would skimp on it....

I'm planning on having my Eclipse painted before the year is over. I'm finding that the best way to get some reliable references is to find a paintjob you really like... ask the owner of the vehicle where they had their car/truck painted... and take it from there. I'm sure the price will range quite a bit, but black is really not a color to screw around with. Keep in mind that that since black is not the original color, the work involved to hide the previous color requires much more labor.

Just my .2.

X2. . I had a friend pay the premium because they said it was a much better paint job. It still chipped and flaked after a year.

Some of the Maaco shops do a good job, but why risk it? Take it to a reputable shop and have them do it. Paint isn't cheap at all.

I was in an accident when i was in highschool and had to repaint my 93 Eclipse. It cost me alittle over $2000.00. Kept the car for 2 years sold it and ran into the new owner 3 years later and paint still looked new.

Thats exactly the amount I'm expecting to pay to paint mine. I'm thinking 2000 - 2500 is good. Plus I'm planning on keeping my car, its almost paid off.. so It'll be around for a while. Investment.

If oyur planning on having the car for a while then it's completly worth it to spend the money on quality paint and service. But i was thinking they may have to sandblast for vehicle because your making it such a darker color. If they have to then i would suggest getting a lighter color.

Now, I've always heard that if you do all the prep work and kinda do the extra yourself it is worth while to get them to do it. Take emblems and trim off and work something out with them, even supply higher quality paints and clears if need be. They probably are good painters using the cheapest shat so the paintjob lasts a year or less. I myself would still insist on a good shop because I like a nice paint job to last, you should see my old car and 4 yrs of this body shop business.

Well for starters, I personally never refer to my truck as a "car"

As for Macco, since you see so many people here bustin their collective asses (as do) detailing their truck to make the paint look as mint as possible- why even consider having them paint it when their reputation is poor to start with? Find a body shop thats willing to paint your TRUCK and have you run a rub on decal on your back window letting everyone know who did the paint job on the truck with the new wheels and tires

Go to a car show and ask around. Not so much for a show finish but more for skill and integrity. These car show guys are few and far between for painters but they know who takes pride in their work. In other words a OCD guy will not put his name on crap. ( I think OCD is just a label lazy people came up with)
