Black Plastic

I am sure this has been asked several times, but I am not having much luck searching for it.(Operator error). What is the best product to use on black plastic trim to keep it dark.

Are we talking interior or exterior?

I wouldnt say theres a BEST product out there. I like CG V.R.P. its pretty shiny, but drys fast, and doesnt leave the plastic sticky and grease like others do. 303 Protectant is a little more of a matte look, not sure how long it lasts though. Then DG #271 leaves a very nice look with great durability.

Sorry for not clarifying myself. Exterior black plastic trim. Mirrors, rear bumper plastic, door handles, etc...

Well there ya go then. 303 and CG V.R.P can be used on the interior too. V.R.P. is a little too shiny to use on the interior IMO though. And Im not sure DG is good on the interior, better just to use on exterior surfaces.

303 is probally the best bet. I've been using Meguiars Trim Detailer, I like it. Some people say it runs but I haven't experienced ANY running. I always let it dry for about 12 hours in a garage though so maybe that helps!

Turtle Wax ICE liquid or paste. A friend put some on his tailgate handle and it made it black and shiny but not slick or oily. It also has UV protection in it.

I just started using 303 and prefer it over Trim Detailer from Megs....that being said, I think there is a place for both of them pending how you want the product to look. Trim Detailer can be dulled down by taking a dry mf towel to it. I really like the results I am getting with 303. But I really like them both. They are both great if you ask me.

You can also try just using some Megs Hyperdress and wiping it down too. But if isn't dry it will run like mad on you. It almost has to "cure"

There is a detailer here in So Cal who has developed a new dressing for black trim called Black Wow. It works great and lasts a long time. Just another option, but worth checking out:

www.showcardetailing.com

If you are in So Cal Richard also puts on regular detailing clinics on Saturdays about once a month. You can sign up on his forum at that site if you are interested.

What is CG V.R.P.?

I just started using 303 and I'm not impressed at all. For one it is very difficult to get an even coat(it seems to always be blotchy). Two is that my bed rails have more of a chalky apperance to them now, before 303 they were still black and had never been touched by any other product. Three when I used on the interior it left and an body odor smell afterwords, had to air the truck out for a few hours to get rid of it. It also left the same small in my other car as well.

I know just about everyone ravs about this stuff so maybe I got a bad bottle? I bought it from a local aftermarket car store, and the bottle was a little dusty so maybe it is old?

What do you guys think about "vinyl-X" not sure if that is the correct spelling.

Thanks

I use Honda Clean. You can buy it at any Honda motorcycle dealer. Works like a champ without any of the nasty side effects of Armor All.
