Road Expedition Buffer

After not being able to much of anything with the #9 Swirl Remover, I decided I needed an orbital buffer. After looking around here, it seems the "weapon" of choice is the Porter Cable. But alas, I don't have that much money right now.

So I was looking for a cheaper alternative. Went to Home Depot and Lowes, looking for random orbitals. Saw a couple but they seemed too "powerful" at speeds of 7000-12000 OPM and 2.4 Amps and up. Is that too fast?

Being too worried of the possibility the random orbitals being too fast, I went with a cheaper and weaker option, a 20 dollar random orbital from Advanced Auto Parts. Here's the specs:
Road Expedition 6 in Buffer/Polisher
120V~60 Hhz 0.5A
2600 OPM

Deciding to test it out, I decided to do half of my roomates hood on his Mustang.

Quick Overview:
Washed
Rinsed
Dried
#9 Swirl Remover (applied with rotor)
Scratch X (applied with rotor)
Color X (applied with rotor)
#26 Wax (hand application)

From the looks of it, it took alot of the scratched out, though by no means all of them. Maybe 60-70% of them.

It did seem like the poor thing was barely able to keep up with the work. My guess is that it probably would have overheated before I would have finished the car, had I done all of it.

Here's some pictures (it was almost night). I'll post some more tomorrow when the sun comes out.

Treated Half

Just liked this shot. So shiney

And yes, in case you are wondering, I am returning it. I highly doubt it will "cut it" with my Expedition. Possibly looking to try this one, with a higher OPM (4000 as opposed to 2600) to see if there is a difference.
