I used some stuff several years ago and it turned the headliner loose. Was scared to touch it again for a long time. I've since been using "Tuff Stuff" on headliners for 10 years or so and have had really good reuslts and no problems with the headliner turning loose.
I've used it most to get soda pop stains out from up there.

Just used a clean white terry cloth towel with it.

Haha I thought I was the only one who could manage to have a Coke stain on my headliner.

I was wondering the same thing, I figured I'd try Tuff Stuff as well. Any other options?

I was just wondering if something like a carpet cleaner would work or not? Like for say Spot Shot

Nope, I had a guy email recently who had a coke explode in his car and got all over the headliner. Go to Home Depot and get some Folex, thatll take it right out. Just make sure your headliner isnt a special material like suede or anything.

The best plan for headliners is this:

Use a terry cloth rag, and some basic citrus based cleaner (no solvents) Wipe in one direction lightly, kind of like blotting the stain away. These headliners will come down if your run to hard. If it doesn't all come out, be careful, as excessive light rubbing will cause the headliner to kinda of fuzz up like growing hair, and then it will never look the same.

No carpet cleaner

That's what turned the headliner loose on my very first car.

fyi. The coke was there when I bought it. The dealer couldn't get it off and lowered the price because of the "damage".

Yes definitely stay away from anything solvent based - I'm pretty sure they use some solvent based contact adhesive on the head liner and using a solvent is a quick way to delaminate it.

FYI I've seen some issues with Spot Shot and would generally steer clear of it. I've seen a few cases where areas cleaned with spot shot exposed to lots of sunlight (windows, sliding doors) bleaching out. Anything UV reactive would be bad news in a vehicle obviously. This was a couple of years ago, hopefully it's been reformulated by now but I don't know.

Oh alright, yeah it must be fixed my mom uses it all over the place in our house and it works fine. Most of our back rooms get full sun almost all day and never done anything there so.

I've used blue coral uphostlery cleaner for spot cleaning and it works good. Never had any problems with it. Followed up with a clean wet terry cloth and dried with another.
