What wax do you use
What wax do you use
I'm just wondering what type of wax everyone is using, i've always use Meguiers and have enjoyed the results but i'm just wondering what else is out there to give the paint that extra umph...
any suggestions are great, Thanks!!

I have used the #3 from the DC system, #21, #26, Gold Class wax, NXT, DuPont Teflon stuff, and a few others. I hear great reviews of the Vanilla and Cherry Moose Wax, and know that Collinite #845 Insulator Wax is excellent. There's others out there, but those are the top few of the top of my head.
Step up to some good wax.
Duragloss PW (Paste Wax)
Contains a blend of waxes, polymers and polishing agents. It gives a deep gloss and durable protective coating. Duragloss PW can be used on both regular and clear-coated paint with excellent results.

"Step up"... hardee har har... nice comment rusty. You should step up and learn this stuff before showing that you already know it all... really. You frequently show yourself as a prima donna within this forum and, frankly, it's kind of old -- to a lot of people. You'd be very suprised with the number of PM's that I get referring SPECIFICALLY to information that you have distributed on the forum. While contribution is nice, a skipping record gets a tad old to some. Subtle jabs are a quick irritant. Take note... I do.
Anyway....
There are oodles of options out there. There are great waxes and there are pretty good waxes. Everyone has a preference. Some of us even have preferences above and beyond others on certain colors in certain conditions etc.
For example, in a harsh environment, one may want to really go to the extreme with protection over looks. For others, looks may be the best route for them to pursue as they can consistantly up the protection to keep a high end level of protection. Different waxes play differently in different games.
The bottom line to this market is to find something that you like and use it often.
To give you a quick run down of some of the waxes in my aresonal:
1. Mother's
2. Zaino (various)
3. Meguiar's (various)
4. Collinite 845
5. FK1 (various)
6. Wolfgang
7. Pinnacle
8. S100
9. P21S (a few non-released testers along with the regular P21s)
10. 4-Star
11. Poorboy's (various)
....
there are a few more but, my brain is fried tonight. I've got several tester and non-production samples as well... they're all just not coming to mind. After detailing two cars and washing one more (for a total of 3 cars washed for the weekend), I'm a bit zapped. Couple that with baby-prep and, well, I'm out of it...
Again, there are oodles of options out there. It's fun to tinker around with various types and see what you like best. Don't take anyone's word for it here.. mine included... use what you find to work best and go with it frequently.

I used P21s on my truck today. Great stuff. I also like Poorboys Natty's Blue, Duragloss, Optimum, Pinnacle Liquid Souveran.
Here is a pic of my hood after Duragloss 101 Polish topped with P21s

I'm kinnda new to this whole "detailing" thing, so I've only used two waxes: Eagle One Nanowax and Meg's #26.
Just today, finished applying the #26 over the 2 week old Nanowax. It looks and feels really good. Passed the rain test; water was rolling off like water on a RainXed windshield

That being said some of your own intolerances lack the quality of humility, which makes it very difficult to relate to anybody in a “human to human” manner. While you leave little room for anyone else's judgments, creativity or resourcefulness let alone a mental position that will give peace of mind.
I personally sure as hell don't need to make my mark on the world and maintain a sense of self-esteem using an F150 forums.
Probably not the time nor place but... I'm going to give it a go.
Rusty -- first, I have only recently started to have a problem with you. It started from you ripping information from other forums and posting it here and then simply ripping 'ideas' off of the internet by cutting and pasting information about products that you have no idea about.
While opening one's mind to other ideas is, indeed, a good thing, the lack of originiality and the lack of competence, to a certain degree, is what probably bugs me the most.
Any 'Joe' can search the web for information but, most of the time individuals who come here are looking for real world information rather than lawn darts in a football field. While every post may have some merit, simply stabbing at it as if you 'know' that the product or products that you've referenced will work bugs me. If you've used it, that's fine. I won't argue. Opinions are like a-holes but, if you haven't used it, you should always mention that you haven't and reference your source as to where you're getting the information.
I'm telling you like it is here, rusty... several have PM'd me asking who you are and when you got here. You've arrived and have posted over and over and over again with 'end all' suggestive ideas and have made all kinds of effort to undercut what I, specifically, have mentioned in some threads. It wasn't that long ago -- maybe a few months -- that you and I played email tennis with ideas and thought on getting those swirls out of your black paint. To my recollection, you achieved this task and it came out looking pretty dang good...
My point is this... You're representing yourself as someone who has been in this game for years and years and years and has tried product after product after product. You haven't. Frankly, you've demonstrated that you're willing to live outside the box but, only far enough so that you can throw stones at those of us who are a little closer to the box on a more frequent occasion.
That's not to say that those of us who are nearer the box haven't lived outside but, tossing rocks back in at those of us who are isn't the way to really become a reliable source of information here on the site. Honestly, you come off as a prima donna. It's really that simple -- and it's not just me that has taken notes on that, rusty.
I tell you this as a friend -- take it or leave it -- listen to the folks on here who have tinkered with a plethora of products, techniques, and routines. There's some great information that's shared here. Choose wording wisely --- and I should do the same. Posting threads like "How do I get this crap off of here" and posts like "Step up" are simple stabs - and you and I both know that.
I'm not sure where you and I got sideways -- maybe the infamous Orange Peel thread - but, none the less, you bring some perspective to this forum that is appreciated for the most part. All that I ask is that you also sit and learn a bit and then offer information when you can and where you can.
When people like Gip or qadsan post, I listen. I also take what just about every poster here posts and think about it long and hard. I've picked up lots of tips from guys who you don't see up here in this forum very frequently and I use them in my detailing business. I also email and PM with similar detailers of high caliber to attempt to step up my game that may not be here on our forum but are resident on other forums (autopia, dc, mol, mothers, etc). I experiment - as do others - with mutliple products and even, on occasion, get asked by manufacturers to test and offer opinions about new products. I am by no means a know it all and will never be one. I can aspire to that all I want but, I'll never arrive.
I'll end it with that... I think that's all anyone here would ask of you is to simply tone it down about three notches off of the jumping up and down screaming 'I KNOW !!! I KNOW!!!' attitude and simply go with the flow. In all honesty, when a question is asked, there probably is someone here that knows or can get the answer. We really have a good thing here with both younger and older detailers and I feel that you can certainly contribute in a positive manner.

You act as if I turned this forum into a bunch of nothing people. My goals were to open minds to new information and ideas, and have always presented my views indirectly. There is nothing I can do about refusals on a second opinion. As they look for answers, they might just discover that some ideas I present might be helpful.

--I have a lot more I'd like to say, but I've better things to do than to argue this with you. You need to grow up, get over yourself, loose the arogance, and get a clue. Your attitude is unacceptable, and your posts annoying. Maybe you should take some time off. Maybe you just need to rethink things. I don't know what it is that you need, but you need to have some serious improvement.
I'm not sure if this has anything to do with it, but just in case: When people disagree with you abou tproducts, that's not the time to get defensive about it. As many of us have said in the past, "opinions are (well, finish the rest). Find a product that works FOR YOU, and stick with it. Try out a bunch of others for fun, and enjoy the results. Post back results". That's not an invitation for you to go about stabbing your results into every thread like a knife. Like alcohol commercials say: Use in moderation.
oohh. I just read what RP wrote (ie seems both if us were typing at the same time.) I agree 100%. In the past, I have put serious thought into what you have said, and seriously thought about some of the products you mentioned.
I'm pretty sure that I've worded my thoughts badly--I'm horrible about doing that. As I aspire to be as good as RP, he aspires to be like (well, several people), and I'm sure you have aspirations. You can get there. I think you can detail pretty darn well (I've seen your pics). But perhaps it's the method of communication here...I can't hear you or see your face, making things likesarcasm sometimes hard to pick up on. But, sometimes it's not how it should be.
I guess what I'm trying to say is this: You, right now, have the ability to do one of 2 things: Help this forum out, or hurt it. Continue along the path you're on now, and it'll be the latter (and I'm sure you'll recieve a lot of flak). But, choose to help the forum, and you'll find rewards you never thought were there.

I am kind in the same boat as you, always had pretty good luck with Megs...after some reading on this site you'll find that people have their favorites and that each product can produce different results on different colors...certain problems are better suited for XYZ vs XYZ etc. In the end, with proper prep, care and application, you'll get great results from many different products.
Up until about 4 years ago, I used "whatever" and never did any paint prep, just washed, waxed...done...repeat whenever. Just when I thought my paint looked good, I would see someone who really knew what they were doing. I asked questions. Now I have become a little OCD and started using more and more products but I have somehow come back to Megs. Why? I like the guys I buy from, they are very helpful. I like their website and forum. Do I use other products besides Megs? Yes. I have some S100, Zanio. I don't get great results with Zanio, but its b/c I am not using it properly. My bad. I like the S100. I haven't used it with Meg #21 yet. That is my next move.
Welcome to the OCD detailing club. Look around, read a lot and go for it.

I'll tell ya what. I'll just move on. I've never ripped info from any other forums except my own posted on other forums. It's not worth sitting here having to justify ever single iota that I post. Premadonna? This isn't exactly rocket science. You or anybody else knows nothing about me or what I do outside of here. Would it do any good to say that, gee, maybe, I've been taking some classes in autobody and detailing....? Nah, because I've already been stereotyped as a someone who needs to, and should take a backseat. So yeah maybe I come on to strong. My only fault is assuming everyone was on equal playing field.
Absolutely NO ONE here has asked you to leave, Rusty. That would've been the very easy route to take. I'm not going to get on bent knee and beg but, I, for one, don't want to run anyone off.
As I mentioned, we have a good thing here -- you and I both know that -- and you can easily fit in to it.
Being outside of the box is a-o-k. I've said that before. Don't take this quite so personally as I'm not out to hurt your feelings or belittle you. All I, personally, am asking is to play along a bit rather than trying to 'be the game'.
This is a very difficult thing to convey via text and is easily misinterpreted. You're obviously have this detailng bug OCD like the rest of us and take quite a bit of pride in what you do. Quite frankly, that's a big asset but, there's a line... it's tough to stay on one side or the other sometimes... all of us struggle with that.
I tell people that I don't know the answer to some questions some of the time and I don't know the answers to all of the questions all of the time. I'll be up front and say that - you've seen me say it before. "I don't know, bud... good luck" is a fair response lots of the time.
You've shared some great info here. I, for one, have been hunting for this RainX sheeting car wash stuff ever since you gave it a rave review. It interests me. I haven't found it yet but, then again, I haven'd dredged. I plan on snagging some Duragloss and giving it a whirl based some of what you've said as well as reading about it elsewhere but, again, I haven't yet. On both, I will but, it hasn't happend yet. Lastly, I actually bought and used the Schmitt based on your thoughts.
You're absolutely right in that this IS NOT rocket science. My daily grind is far more difficult than paint and is heck of a lot more important. We all take this stuff very seriously and take pride in what we post and do. I know you do as well. Further, internet forums aren't really any thing to get all uptight and excited about but, for those of us (you included) that have this OCD that many don't understand, it's our sounding board and our time to be in the know with something that consumes us. (yes, I really think that this stuff can border line on an illness). Many folks offer a very broad array of knowledge and history with detailing that maybe can answer some questions better than others. No one here knows it all but, some know more than others and definitely can bring more to the table from a knowledge, background, and real-world application and use of a particular product, procedure, or trick.
I'm going to snap it shut with that... all I can say is this in closing. Continue to post with information that you can share based on experience with products and based on what you know. Suggestion is always welcome but should be approached as optional to someone with caveots.
----back to your regularly scheduled WAX thread.

Duly noted. I haven't any trouble on other (detail) forums. Quite the opposite, and more than likely the rub here.
I forgot to mention I purchased a new Metabo rotary--very nice machine.
Thanks for all the help. I might be back in the fall.
