2007 Black Lariat
2007 Black Lariat
I just bought a 2007 Lariat S/C and I was hoping some of you guys could give me some advice on caring for the black paint from the beginning. I have read lots of posts on here and I just dont know where to start.
Should I Use a Clay Bar on the new paint? What Brand?
What Wax should I use? My dad swears by Meguiars NXT
What do I use to wash it, as far as rags or mits, or sponges.
REALLY ANY ADVISE YOU GUYS CAN GIVE ME WOULD BE GREAT... I Love Black Trucks, and want to stay away from the Swirly spiderweb.
THANKS SO MUCH

Washing - 2 bucket method with a grit guard in each bucket.....lamb's wool wash mitt is a safe bet....
Definitely use a clay bar...new vehicle's are some of the best candidates for this treatment (rail dust from transport)
Only use quality, clean microfiber for removing wax, dusting, quick detailing, etc.
Hard to go wrong on product selection. NXT is good..so are a plethora of others. About the only mistake you can do in this Dept. is to use a first step product that has some "filler" ability (to hide swirl marks), and then use a "cleaner" product next step. This will "clean" your filler product right off the paint, defeating the purpose.

One other thing about LSP (last step product)...
There are paint sealers (synthetic) and waxes (carnauba).
NXT is a synthetic, by the way.
Synthetics are much more durable than waxes, but alot of folks like the look you get from a wax better. So, for the best of both worlds, it is not uncommon to put a coat or two of a synthetic sealer on (wait twelve hours between each coat of a synthetic) and then a top coat of a good carnauba wax last for a great, wet look.

NXT looks good but it doesnt last long at all. After 3 weeks water wasnt beading up any more. Lots of good info over at autopia.com Meguiars and Duragloss are good if you want to buy locally. Autogeek, exceldetail.com and specialtymotoring.com are good places to buy online. Target has some nice microfiber towels for polish/waxing. You will need a couple of waffle weave drying towels, a real sheapskin wash mit, bucket and some Meguiars Gold Class car wash.
