I think its time for these to come off...looking for a more clean look.

Now when I had my 04 STX i waited 2 years before i pulled them off and used a hair dryer and adhesive removal for the glue but upon close inspection of the paint, you could clearly tell where the STX stickers were located. Im not sure if its that i didnt remove it properly, or the fact that i removed it 2 years after i purchased it. The paint under the sticker looked brand new of course, leaving the surrounding paint looking "less new"

Now my FX2 i have only had around 6-7 months, and if I am going to remove the stickers, would sooner be better? I am looking for a cleaner look, but if the outcome is the same as my older truck, i would be better off leaving them on. What methods are the best for removing these stickers?

 

This fancy tool worked well for removing my 4x4 OFF ROAD stickers on my 2000 F-250.


No residue was left behind either. I just let the truck sit in the sun for a few hours, and it came right off. Few coats of wax, and you can't even tell that it was ever there.

 

Hair dryer and some patience. Heat up the sticker... slowly peel back... use a product like WD40 to remove any residue... WAX IMMEDIATELY AFTER REMOVAL IF YOU USE A VOC-BASED PRODUCT TO REMOVE RESIDUE.

I was looking to do this too, it stands out a lot more on the Dark Shadow Grey color since the sticker is red.

 

If isn't to screwed up getting it off, could you put that sticker a top the windshield in front of the rear view mirror just long enough to take a picture. I was currios to see what it looks like. My neighbor has an '07 King Ranch and he wants me to put a 4x4 King Ranch bed decal on his windshield as described. I told him he was crazy, he wouldn't like it. Of course I don't want to do it either. I think if I show him a picture he'll change his mind. If ya can't don't worry about it. Thanks.

 

I've thought about it my self a few times, but have not had the ballz to remove it yet. I guess with a little heat or even on a hot sunny day they should come off easy.

 

Just to ad.....Use a putty knife, with its blade wrapped in duct tape to work the label up as the glue warms up.

I worked on a vehicle about a month ago that had gone after a pinstripe with a VERY similar method...

Let's just say that it was *impossible* to remove all the damage that she had caused.

That must have been some pretty crappy duct tape then. Good God, how in the world would, uh..... never mind, sheesuz.

 

I took my 4X4 sticker off my bed the first day I got it. I walked out of the house, looked at them and thought hey it would look much cleaner with out them. So I walked up, and started peeling. No heat, no duct tape, no nothing! I would say just let it sit in the sun for a couple hours and the peel away. Good luck!

In my opinion, it boils down to using a fairly sharp object (even if it's a plastic putty knife) on a fairly soft substrate (paint). Plus, the point is to have a sharp edge to lift it up a tad to get it started, right? Wouldn't duct tape dull the edge out to the point that it's pointless to get between a sticker and paint?

I use plastic razor blades on a frequent basis to remove stuck on stuff that neither chemicals nor clay will remove but, I use them with great care and some additional lubrication (QD typically). Even then, I've lightly scratched several places where I had to go back in and use the rotary to pull the problems that I induced back out of the paint.

If it were mine, I'd default to a fingernail and hair dryer... *shrugs* Fingernail scratches can EASILY be removed by hand -- putty knife gouges can't.

That's just my unsolicited two cents worth... especially after seeing the end result of the pinstripe removal that this lady attempted. LOL!

I can't fathom that, unless she was 5 or 6. And even that's a stretch.

 

Can't fathom? How difficult is it to understand that the putty knife gouged the paint -- through the clear -- and into the base? No one... I don't care how good you are with a rotary... can remove that.

Boneheaded? Yeah. Probably on her part but, two words that I really don't consider to go hand in hand.. that's 'putty knife' and 'paint' (when referring to car paint).

I took mine off a couple days ago. Truck is about 3 weeks old. It was a cloudy day, just walked up... Got a corner up with my fingernail and peeled them off. No residue, just a clean looking FX2.
