What pads?

Well i got my truck all detailed and looking like a mirror, and now my parents have decided that they would also like there cars done. My question is that one of there cars has loads of swirl marks and even scratches down the hood. I was going to use scratch-x for the scracthes and then follow it with #80. What pad should i use to apply the #80. I have both the yellow and brown pads for the PC, but i'm not sure which one would work better. I was thinking the brown, but just wanted a second opinion. And also should i follow the 80 with 9? Thanks for the help guys.

Use the yellow pad for #80. I'm not sure about using #9 after #80 but I am sure somebody will be able to help you.

So then what would the brown pads be used with? Also how much greater is the cut of #2 as opposed to #80. I mean this poor truck hasn't been detailed waxed, anything, for over 5 years. Would it be better to start with #2?

If you have #80 Speed Glaze, I would not bother with the ScratchX. #80 will do everything that ScratchX will do and more. #80 is more aggressive than ScratchX.

If you get good results with #80 there is no need to follow it with #9 unless you were getting some marring when you were using #80. #9 is less agressive than #80.

As far as pads go, assuming you are using the Meguiar’s pads, I would use the yellow pad for #80 and the tan (brown) pad for the wax.

Here is a chart showing the various meguiars products along with speed and pad recommendations when using the PC

No problem. Just don't forget to top #80 with a good quality wax when you are done. #80 is a cleaner polish and not a wax.

I already have NXT to go on top, and 26 to go on top of the NXT.

It sounds like you are all set then.

I have also used that combination in the past with good results.

Yep... that's an excellent guide for pad/speed with the PC. It's been posted here several times...

I have a laminated copy of it in the garage with my supplies...

One other thing get some 83 if the 80 doesn't get you where you need to be. It's the strongest cut to use for a DA. Just don't run out if 83 before you're done like I did today.

I just did my BLACK F-150 that had swirl marks in it in this order.
  1. Wash
  2. Clay
  3. #80 with PC (Yellow Pad)
  4. #9 with PC (Yellow Pad)
  5. NXT with PC (Beige Pad)
  6. NXT with PC (Beige Pad)

red06f150... just to clairfy for those of us that might be color blind .. when you say brown pad .. I assume you are talking about the light tan, 9006 meguiars pad .. not the darker maroonish 7006 pad .. the advice everyone has given you is under the assumption that the brown pad you are talking about is the 9006 (also noted inthe chart posted by Mister B)

the paranoid part of my read this thread, then couldn't keep myself from replying ..

back to football .. post pics when you are done ..

I thought the same thing but didn't post..

Also, a word of caution with #83... as was mentioned, it's the highest cut product that should be used with the PC from Meg's but, my personal opinion is that it's TOO high of a cut to be used.

In my opinion, it simply doesn't break down well with the PC as the PC doesn't generate enough heat/RPMs. While I do, on occasion, use #83 with the PC, I typically will only use it on LIGHTER colors as #83 WILL introduce some micromarring that will require something behind it (like 80 or 2 or similar) to remove the marring that the #83 introduced.

99.5 times out of 100, I'll pull out the rotary with #83.

In a nutshell, use #83 at your own risk with the PC.
