Applicator pads ?

Guys I need a little help. I have a 10" orbital buffer, I went to Advance to get a replacement applicator pad. They didn't have the original pad it came with. My question is can I use the same style of pad that I use to take the wax off? The guy at Advance said I could but I just wanted a few more opinions. Thanks

Rule of thumb is remove by hand but....

You haven't told us what type of pad you're using? Terry? Foam? etc?

You could.

A few pointers...

Let the machine do the work. No downward pressure. Work from top to bottom. On occasion, take nylon-bristled brush to the surface of the pad to bring the 'nap' back out on the terry. Don't use ultra-cheap terry bonnets.

I'm not a big fan of those machines. I recently worked on a Camry where the owner had used one of these 'Victor' orbitals. Unfortunately, he had apparently managed to get alot of grit on the pad while applying the wax to the surface of this dark green car. Well, long story short, he marred the heck out of the paint and it was a MONSTER to get back to normal. Then again, the moral of this story isn't so much to not use this particular type of machine but, rather to use your smarts when using it. (Side note: the guy mentioned that he dropped the machine on his GRAVEL driveway and picked it up and started using it again. LOL!).

You bet. No problem.

If you drop it, do yourself a favor and trash the pad. It's a lot easier to buy a new one than to cause yourself the heartache and pain of getting everything that you induced back out...

It was expensive for the Camry owner... and I never got everything out... although, it did look MUCH better.
