took off my bug guard

I took off my bug guard and the small rubber pieces that were on the hood to keep it from hitting. The adhesive that held the small pieces on have left some marks on the hood that have been extremely difficult to get off. What should I use to get this off? Someone told me to use goof off but I'm worried that its a little too strong and might mess up the clear coat.

Use a heat gun to help it along. Just like 05Supercrew said, you can use that stuff and make sure you wax after.

Be **VERY** careful with any type of solvent... even as recent as last week I was reading an account where someone utilized WD40 to remove something near a painted plastic piece... well, long story short, the WD removed the paint from the plastic piece.

Start with the heat gun/hair dryer... then move upwards. G'luck.

Have you tried Goo-Gone? I've had good luck getting even old adhesives off with that stuff, and it seems fairly mild. I've never had it damage the surface.

i used wd-40 on mine. i had an front end accident with my truck this past winter and when the body shop fixed it they added a Ford bug deflector instead of the one i had. it didn't fit right and sagged so i removed it and bought an aftermarket. i had to take off those big bumpers as well and wd-40 worked great. just be carefull like mentioned above and take your time. it will come off.

Try 3M adhesive remover. Dab a very small amount a on soft cloth and wipe it on and off. I had some stick on vent guards and those adhesive tabs left some goo on them. It worked without taking off paint. Make sure you go over it with a good cleaner wax and top off with a carnuba or synthetic wax.
