is Windex bad?

I have heard that windex will turn OEM window tint purple. Is this true? Is Windex really bad to use?
THX ahead of time for comments.

Never heard that one but, the ammonia in the windex can be detrimental to rubber seals and such... personally, I think that it'd take a LOT of Windex to cause a problem...

The reason I don't use it is because there are so many products out there that are SO much better... pick up a can of Stoner's Invisible Glass the next time you're at Wal-Mart and you'll toss your Windex... there are products that I like better than Stoners too but, for the $, it's hard to beat IMO.

Yup, it will and wrinkle it too. Keep the windex in the house, but it does clean chrome nice, actually recommended. Trust me, I **** my dad's truck up with windex.

windex with ammonia can damage AFTERMARKET TINT FLIM, OEM TINT is made in the glass and no glass cleaner good or bad will damage that......

Chances are that the front has no factory tint, just the rear

Stoner's is the best I have ever used. Windex always leaves a haze for me. Ends up streaky.

I believe one has to differentiate between "factory" and "aftermarket" tint here. Factory tint is generally inside the glass as an internal layer and therefore pretty much immune to damage by cleaners. Aftermarket tint on the other hand is a polymer layer applied to the inside of the window glass. This can be damaged by the Ammonia in Windex. (Windex is also bad for Plexiglass and Lexan for the same reasons.) I'd highly recommend the Stoner product too.

I never buy Windex any more. It ruins tint and it kills saltwater fish. A buddy of mine has a beautiful saltwater tank and his wife cleaned the outside glass with Windex. It spiked the ammonia level in the tank and killed two of his most expensive angel fish.

I found out that window tinters use ammonia to remove existing tint.

I highly discourage the use of ammonia-based glass cleaners on your car. While ammonia is a great glass cleaner for the home, ammonia is harmful to many car surfaces including vinyl, rubber, and leather. More importantly, the use of ammonia inside your car is harmful to your health. As a substitute to ammonia, I prefer citric acid, alcohol, or mechanical cleaners.

Window tint film is often applied to the inside windows to shade passengers or provide privacy. Window tint film is a thin sheet of Mylar plastic. Mylar easily scratches and will be destroyed by ammonia. To clean tinted windows, use mild cleaners and water only.

Stoner's -- Best stuff I've ever used. I've used a lot of stuff and always ended up with a haze shortly after. I used stoner's and I don't ever get a haze anymore. Last time I used it was about 4 months ago...still no haze. YAY.

Where is the Stoner stuff at Walmart? Car section or the cleaning supplies asile? And every time my dad goes to fill up, he sprays windex on EVERY surface in the car besides the seats and carpets. And in the wintertime, it's with the windows up.

Yep... good point... I should've added that. I was basing my response on his 'OEM' adjective though...

Talking

That's funny because I've tinted my last three trucks using Windex No Drip. So I'd say if you can use it to install tint, it's not going to hurt it, lol.

The BLUE windex will damage your tint. The GREEN will not.
