RP -- Clay Question
RP -- Clay Question
Hey RP -- I need a little advice on a detailing procedure.
I just took my trusty old '97 Ranger out of storage to use as my daily driver. Before I put it away, I did my normal detailing routine (clay bar, #9, two coats of #26, etc....) and then parked it here in my garage. It has been sitting for a little over a year.
I had it out yesterday for the first time and got some water on it, and today I woke to find little specks of rust all over the top side of the hood. I suspect that what happened is that it was parked near my bench grinder, and little specks of metal probably flew off the wheel and landed on my hood. I have clay barred the hood again to remove the specks of rust and was amazed at how much was pulled up!
The question I have is do you suspect re-claying the hood removed whatever #26 was on it? Maybe I should throw a coat or two on just for good measure?

Think of it this way, when that littlel speck of metal hit your paint, it melted down into your clear. By melting downward, it removed the wax on the surface in that spot or, at a minimum, displaced it.
Additionally, your abrasion with the claybar will have certainly removed a certain build film.
As easy on and off as #26 is, I'd go for it.
