Quick Question on Quick Detailer

Or Quik Detailer as Meguiar's calls it. Anyway, at what point should this stuff _not_ be used to take off surface dust/dirt? Where I live there's a breeze most days that kicks up a lot of dust. Is it alright to use it to take off this dust?

Also - another Quik eerrrrr quick question on this stuff. It rained last night while my truck was outside. We haven't got much rain so after it rained for about 5 mins the wind picked up and blew dust over that so now my hood and roof have little beaded raindrop shaped dust spots. I tried to (lightly) wipe some off from an inconspicuous area and for the most part the dirt came off, but there still seems to be a water spot underneath.. Am I relagated to re-washing? If so, it looks like it'll have to wait since I am currently under the weather and it's cold outside. SWMBO (she who must be obeyed) will not give me any sympathy if I get sicker because I needed to wash my truck. I think it's the reason I'm this sick to start with . (just don't tell her!)

I use the QuiK Detailer only after a wash, not for spot cleaning! I believes it's intended use is between wax application to keep up the glossy shine!

Me too, if you have dust/dirt on the truck you need to get that off (by washing) before using the detailer.

Here's my opinion on this -- some will disagree.

A VERY light coating of dust (and I can't stress VERY LIGHT enough) can be removed with a QD spray. There are sprays out there, however, that are more suited for a slightly heavier coat of dust (Like Poorboy's Spray and Wipe). Never, under any circumstances, should you use a QD to remove much more than a LIGHT coating.

When in doubt, wash it. You get an exponential amount of lubrication over simple QD.

Again, same answer here. See above. I'd probably be more apt though to rewash... Never 'scrub' with a QD product (or anything else for that case). If the water mark is there, you're going to have to do something that offers more lubrication to get it off.

One way to accelerate swirling/scratching is to do the aformentioned methods often -- trust me. Minimizing the ways that you can induce this type of problem is the best way to keep from having to deal with it later down the road.

Again, just my two cents...

Thanks! I have used it for a very light dust coating, but thought I'd check before I used it for anything else

For me, this is an easy one. I keep plenty of Poorboy's Spray & Wipe around. So, if there is any dust or very light dirt on the vehicle, I use S & W. If the dirt is more than "very light", I wash the vehicle.

The only QD's I keep around anymore are the ones that provide maximum "POP", and possibly provide some protection. I prefer to call them "final" QD's. Some of these "final" QD's don't provide a lot of cleaning and lubrication. However, that's not an issue, as I use the S & W for that purpose.

I prefer to use products that really excel at a given task, rather than "all purpose" products that do a number of things "good", but maybe not "great".

Of course, that's just me... everyone is different.

Another important thing -- which I forogt to mention in my initial response -- is to fold your ULTRA-NICE microfiber towel into quarters. Rotate quarters often. In fact, I typically, will use two very large MF towels to QD my entire vehicle. The point is that you want the dirt and gunk trapped on the towel... once on the towel, you don't want to rub that same dust around elsewhere on the paint.

I'll use one side of the quartered towel to wipe it down, then flip it and use the other side to 'finalize' it.... then I refold the towel to get two fresh panels.
