Anyone else have trouble with the unlocking?

I have a '98 F150. Nothing fancy and not power locks. That dog on thing gives me grief sometimes when I try to unlock it. I have to jiggle the keys quite a bit to get them to unlock. It happens on both dores with both keys I have. Is this by any chance a common problem? Anyone else had this trouble, I've been dealing with it for over 3 years now and it seems to be getting worse.

Thanks!

Try spraying a little graphite into the locks. They probably just need a little lubrication.

By far the best thing I've found to use in the locks is PB Blaster. It is a rust penetrant spray. I have tried graphite, WD-40, lock-ease... The Blaster frees up the lock in seconds, and it is good for 6 months to a year after that. I've been using it for 4-5 years with no ill effects. Hope this helps. http://www.pbblaster.com/store/morei...m?Product_ID=1

Yeah graphite didn't do a thing for mine. It is a major pain to have to sit and jiggle the key every time I want to get in the truck. It really ticks me off if it is raing outside.

I guess I'll give this PB Blaster a try, thanks!

I've had the same problem on several of my Fords after a few years. Easier to just replace the lock and stop the pain!

It's not hard to do. I've done it to several of my trucks. One I just did it to re-key because I had bought it used.

good luck.

I have a 98 Explorer Sport that has had the same issues (still has) on both doors even after using graphite and having the dealer repair them. Seems they do a quick fix (lube) but never take care of what's really going on. I agree with Expy and will go ahead and replace the locks

It really does work the best and lasts a long time. Please post your results after you try it, since few here seem to believe me. I hate to see people spending money and time on door locks when 10 seconds with a $5 can of lubricant will fix the locks for a long time. Let us know!

I used the graphite on my locks when stationed in MD. Much better in the winter.

PB Blaster

Love the stuff.

Now I just need to figure out why my power locks are working intermittently.

Graphite has always worked for me, but I don't know if I see the point of PB Blaster though. I know what PB is, but the lock isn't rusted and jammed, well the penetraing oil, I see your point. A new lock cylinder is like $12\

And my power locks are possessed as well. From what I have read, the GEM module is dying. chit

Mine's done that a few times. As was mentioned, a shot or two of PB Blaster in the keyholes will do wonders.
