Rockpick!!! or Intel!!!

Rockpick

I know i have posted about chip repairs, but this one seems to have a bunch of chips in one area. This is down between the cab and the bed (its on the bed side) This damage is on both sides of the truck in the exact same area. Is this something that a pro can do or can this be done on your own. Once this is repaired, is there a product out there that can prevent this from re-occuring. These chips are obviously being deflected off the nerf bars. The link below should show you the picture. Thanks

First, I know of nothing that will prevent the problem. Maybe a clear bra material treatment in the area? That's a long shot. Sorry.

Secondly, that looks like a very likely candidate for simple touch up paint. I don't think that anyone would ever notice a touched up blemish in that location.

I really think that you can get it looking good on your own to the point that no one will notice it....

I think the first step would be washing your truck

Casey...

Just re-reading my post there... sorry to have sounded 'not so helpful' there. I guess you could say I'm just not sure on what you should do...

Even as a-retentive as I am, I don't think I'd hesitate to use touch-up paint in that area.

Oh yeah... and you're right on Montana. We do a lot of work out there (about half-way between Butte and Missoula along 90 (town called Phosphate)... I've been there when you would've sworn that Noah was near by and was building an Arc of some sort...

I'd do the same as RP. Not really anything you can do down there to prevent chipping... except find some way to avoid all small rocks that fly up and chip.

Just go with the touch-up paint. Just take your time and you can make it match pretty closely.

Thanks guys. Do either one of you know what temperature this touch up paint can be applied? I guess i could call paintscratch or a body shop here. I really appreciate your responses. I have at least a half a dozen tiny ones on the front bumper. If I can get those smoothed out, i might look into that 3M bra.

Stopped and looked at the new 06 today and they have a plastic film on this corner. I have the same problem on mine, I have the Westin step bars on my truck and I have mounted a piece of aluminum on the bracket to deflect rocks from hitting that area. I will try to get some pics of what I did and post them.

While surfing, I ran across this as an option to keep it from happening again...

It's a 'clear bra' type of material that is pretty cheap. Being that it's from Griots, it's probably decent stuff. I have never personally used it but, it's pretty cheap so, even if it's lack-luster, you won't be out much $.
