ScratchX (meguires) & orbital buffer

can I use the scratchX on a entire pannel, then follow with the 3step process (cleaner, polish wax) or is it best to just spot use it? Also is it alright to use it on a machine with a terrycloth pad?

With a orbital buffer, is it better to apply product by hand and buff off, or buff on and remove by hand, or use the buffer for both steps, and what material pads for what steps/products?

First, I'd avoid mechanical application of Scratch X as it has a tendency to really 'gum up' and render it self generally uneffective under mechanical application...

Secondly, and a personal preference here, I prefer to use S-X on spot application. There are better products for use across a larger area in my opinion (like Meguiar's #9 or #80).

I'm not a big fan of any terry bonnet I've ever seen... I have MF bonnets that foot the bill but no terry bonnets...

a quick stupid question, what do the nunberes for meguires products mean, i.e. #9 or #80.

Also, what is 'MF' and what type of bonnets are best, i think all I have seen around here are wool ones... guess i'll have to order something online.

I believe MF is refering to Meguairs Foam. And the numbers correspond to the product. Forsay, waxes numbers 6, 10, and 12 (those aren't real numbers)

MF = Microfiber

# = product

If you are trying to remove swirls, oxydation and/ or light paint defects then you'll want to try these products. They are listed in order of least to most aggressive, so you'll want to start from the first one and move your way to the last one.

#9 Swirl Remover - This is probably the only one you will find in a retail store. It is the least aggressive cleaner/polish in this class.

# 80 Speed Glaze

# 82 Swirl Free Polish

# 83 Dual Action Cleaner/Polish

FTM is correct...

Meguiar's Professional Line (Mirror Glaze) has a numbering system. I appologize for not being a little more descriptive with that suggestion...

Also, as was mentioned, MF = Microfiber... and when I say microfiber, I'm referring to a nice, plush MF towel/bonnet and not any ultra-elcheapo version. Honestly, bonnets aren't my favorite and I prefer to remove by hand with a nice MF towel but, I have, on occasion, pulled product off with a DFT Bonnet...

Using a cheap yellow bottle of scratch stuff
less than three bucks at WallyWorld. Itseemed to work better in this aplication than the ScratchX. The ScratchX gummed up a bit. The size of the job plus time constraints required the use of my PorterCable.

This bird had been parked out doors all its life. Neglected Bird belongs to a lady friend of a friend and we wanted to see what we could do with the PC

About four hours later,

The scratches and general abuse was still there, but you had to get right up close to see the problems. Car looked almost new from twenty feet away.
