Question body maintenance...

about how often should i put a coat of wax. i am the type the more you do it the better it is. but that can't be right otherwise you would be able to see the wax layered on haha. and what is the best thing for scratches. i tend to do a lil off-roading and i got some "texas pin-stripes." they are surface deep you can't even feel them but that meguiars carnuba didn't take them out....

First, it's important to know that wax, in and of itself, will not remove problems. You need a cleaner wax and, if bad enough, polishes and even compounds. Some blemishing will REQUIRE mechanical methods to remove the problems. Further, some scratches don't come out. Permanent is the word.

Sounds like you might be in the south based on your Texas commentation. With that in mind, I'd recommend going with a wax routine as necessary as it takes. Maybe that's once per month... maybe that's every other month.

Environmental conditions, factors, and a host of other individual items will dictate how often (or how little) you should wax.

As a rule of thumb, in a very hot and sunny/dry environment, you should probably protect more frequently. Also, I'd recommend going with a synthetic wax like Meguiar's NXT or Mother's Synwax. Both products are readily available and go on and come off very easy. Both have light cleaners and thus, can deal with VERY minor surface blemishing.

So, to address the gist of your question on how often; the answer is open ended... as often as necessary. There's no golden bullet answer.
