how do I detail '99 black paint?

I have a '99 black F150. When you look at my truck in the sun you can see the hazing or fine scratches all over the entire paint. Also on the hood I have a few white specs that I can't seem to wash off. Also there are water spots that seem to not want to wash off either. I think these are baked in from the sun. How do I remove these safely?
I was reading alot on here about the Mequires products. Do I need to rub the paint with a clay bar or something similar.
How do I go about getting rid of these swirl marks and making the truck look new again?
Black is the hardest to keep the like new shine. Please help me get this truck looking better than new.

I will refer to Rockpick or Boss to answer your detailing questions. As an owner of a 98 black truck, the problems you describe are the same on my truck.

The water spots may be acid rain, I have been unsucessfull in removing these even with vingar (as someone suggested). The tiny white specs may be the clear coat bubbling up, I have been unsucessful in removing those, even with clay.

With all said, do follow the advice of the detail masters on here, they really know thier stuff. I will relook this thread to see if they have any further tips they can give us to try. I know fo a fact that they can suggest products and techniques to get rid of those swirl marks, mine are all gone and the truck overall looks great. Just my paint is not perfect with the blemishes, but it is an older truck which spent it's entrie life outside.

Good luck in the detailing!!!

Sight unseen, this is a VERY tough answer...

Have you ever considered letting a professional take a stab at it? The reason I ask is because you're looking at either a boatload of elbow grease by hand (and probalby never accomplishing your goal)... Also, potentially the necessity to purchase a machine to polish... and still maybe not getting it back to 'better than new'.

Don't expect miracles on a 99' that is black; even if it's been a pampered truck. Odds are, it can be cleaned up and can get it looking much better but, better than new might be a long shot... especially on black as it is THE hardest color to work on and to accomplish perfection.

I have a 05' Black KR and, even with only 10k miles, it's not perfect... it won't ever be... black is a booger.

I know I will not get it back to a "better than new" look. I don't know why I wrote that. If I can get rid of the swirl marks or atleast most of them, knowing that I will always see some on black paint that is going on 6 years old.
From what I'm seeing on here, if I were to buy a clay bar and use it that would make me happy. I'm not sure what else to buy, as far as wax(NXT?), poishes. I am wondering if there is a kit they sell or if I should buy think seperatly?

A clay bar is NOT a magic wand. A clay bar will help most any surface maintain its integrity, however it will not solve problems created by years of abuse. What we need to know is further details of your truck

1) How often/when is the last time you waxed it
2) How often do you wash it
3) What do you wash it with
4) Have any areas ever been painted

Can you get some pictures of it and post them here? They need to be closeup of problem areas and the areas surrounding the problems.

When you answer those, I can tell you what can be done
