Working on my plan of attack

Well guys, after ordering some stuff from Meguairs I have started to think about my plan of attack. My truck will have gone about 2 1/2 - 3 months without a bath, and it's been sitting outside. It will undoubtedly be a two day job to clean her back up. Well this is the plan that I have so far...

1.) Wash with NXT or Gold Class
2.) Clay
3.) Wash with NXT or Gold Class
4.) Medallion Premium Paint Cleaner
5.) Meguiars Polish (#7?#9?)
6.) Meguiars Medallion Premium Paint Protection? Hi-Tech Yellow Wax? NXT Wax?
12 - 24 hours later
7.) Meguiars Medallion Premium Paint Protection? Hi-Tech Yellow Wax? NXT Wax?

I am trying to decide on which polishes to use and which waxes to use and in what order. I was thinking about going with #7 Show Car Glaze for the polish but also was thinking about #9 Swirl Remover because it will also help remove any fine scratches like the MPPC before it. For the wax, I am in a way lost with so many options to choose from. Does MPPP work better as a bottom coat or a top coat? Does anything bond well with it?

Chris,

A glaze, like #7, (or any other glaze) should go on the paint just before your wax or sealant. Polishes with abrasives, or polishes that "abrade" because of other components, like #9, should be applied and removed in decending order of their abrasiveness.

For example, #83 (DACP) is more abrasive than #9. If you were going to use them both of them, you would use #83 first (about a 6 on the abrasiveness scale), follow it up with #9 (about a 3 on the abrasiveness scale), then #7 (almost no abrasiveness), and then your protective coating.

As for the NXT and MPPP, keep in mind that they both have some light cleaning ability (the MPPP has a bit more). So, if you are apply a layer of one on top of the other, you are probably removing some of the previous layer. You second coat of either is more to ensure complete coverage, rather than add much additional protection.

When I had my truck, I always used the tailgate to test many of my products. I would apply various combinations to each half and see which side I prefered and/or held up better.

Hope this helps.

That's a good idea, I'm going to turn my tailgate into a test lab

Thanks for the info on the polishes and cleaners. Knowing me I would have probably gone backwords.

Yep. I think FTM is getting sucked into the vortex... LOL...

Just about everyone that is really serious about this stuff has a mobile lab in the garage. I typically go with my roof or hood...

Thinking about hitting the junk yard and getting a hood or something that's in good condition to work with.

For sure... FTM is a "goner"!

Interesting side note... At one time I had eight different products on all the vertical panels (every vertical panel BUT the tailgate) on my old "beloved" SuperCrew.

One would be amazed at what you see (and don't see) under various light conditions!
