Need help with my Bed Rails

I have a problem with a film of white "stuff" on my bed rails that I have been unable to get off. WD40 and Mr Clean Magic Eraser have worked the best but still leave alot behind or it reappears in a few days. I believe the residue is just particles left over from the massive amounts of rain water we have been getting around here, but I'm not positive about that. The other products I have tried are :
Meguiars’ #40 Vinyl & Rubber Cleaner / Conditioner
Meguiars’ Natural Shine Vinyl & Rubber Protectant
303 Aerospace Protectant
Mothers Back to Black

All of which fail to get rid of it or just cover it up for a few days
Here is a picture of what I'm talking about, ANY suggestion would be helpful

Uh oh... Mr. Clean Magic eraser strikes again... your screwed dude. This is what Mr. %*@( Clean did to my door handles... you can cover it up, but can't get rid of it.

Hopefully this link works but this system dyes the parts back black. Seen the work some Pro detailers have done w/ it and it's awesome.

Actually it was a ton worse before I used the Magic Easier. The magic eraser was one of the few things that helped. I have actually looked into replacing all the bed rails if I can not come up with a solution. It was only about $100 bucks for all three rails

$94?! For $88.86 you can replace both rails... look 'em up at partsgalaxy.com

EDIT: I see you've already looked into it. That's what I would do...

Wow they sure are proud of that stuff. $94.11 and maybe it will work and maybe it will not. I think I would just buy new if it was going to be that much, Thanks anyway intel486 I do appreciate it though. Dzervit I thought long and hard about using the magic eraser after seeing all your problems with it, but in the end I though maybe it was worth a try, I was out of ideas.

I think DZ might be right... it looks like abrasion on the plastic and thus, there's probably not much that you can do to fix it... maybe so but, it looks like you've tried the gammet of products that nearly anyone here would suggest....

What everyone needs to remember is that the Mr. Clean Magic Eraser cleans by ABRASION. It's like taking 3000 grit sandpaper (as an example) to your substrate...

It worked exceedingly well on rubber moldings on my 01' but, it's prooving to be disasterous on plastics from what I've seen.

Hate to be the one to say this but, it looks like it might be time to buy some rail caps...

It's a professional product and nothing even close to being like Mother's Back to Black or some of the other products you can get a pepboys. Plus paying $94 (if you're a legal business you get a wholesale price) just to do your bedrails looks expensive but you have many applications in that one kit. Every product I've used from autoint works as advertised too. The guy's I've talk to who do it will charge $50 to apply it.

If I was in your shoes, I'd probably just go ahead and replace the bed rails. The bed rails is one place that I had great success with the magic eraser, it's strange.

I think the difference is 99 model to 04 model... undoubtedly a different supplier and, probably, a different material.

I have had good luck with black shoe polish - the kind that is liquid with the foam top. Have also used black dry eraser pens that do a good job and seem to last even longer. Unfortunately they are very black, usually more so than the trim. With those dry eraser pens, if you get good with them - you can take a moist rag and blend them in well at just the right time.

Those are my two best cheapo recommendations and they do both work. I have scuffed up more than my share of black fender flares on 4X4 trucks. These fixes are not permanent, but they are good cheap dyes and will last as long as the wax job lasts.

I use Mother's Back to Black on the plastic on my 02 screw. It works pretty well. It isn't a cure all but it does do a pretty good job. The only problem is that like with Armour All, once you start using it, you have to continue using it. Although I have found it to be less damaging than Armour All.

I ruined a set of running boards on my 4-runner with Armour All (yes I knew better). But, I was able to restore them with the Back to Black. Try it, it's pretty inexpensive compared to replacing the caps.

Regards!
