Window Seal

Hey Folks,

What can I use to preserve the black seal around the outside of the window... This has turned white on my taurus in the past, and I do not want it to happen to my new babe..

Thanks,

Murph

Ever heard of GS-27 scratch remover? I think you can get it from murrays. That works great on the seal.It will take some elbow grease and about 15, but afterwords that seal will look awesome.

I might assume that the seals turned white from some type of chemical exposure... correct? Wax maybe? Drive through car washes/wand washes?

None the less, you can easily preserve the seals on your vehicle by replenishing the ingredients that are lost due to daily environmental conditions and sun exposure.

To accomplish this task, I'd recommend going with a very good dressing such as Vinylex, Aerospace 303, or Meguiar's #40 Rubber/Vinyl Conditioner/Cleaner. There are a HOST of other products out there and even old Armor All is a decent product these days and offers a nice level of UV protection.

Further, you'll want to avoid any types of harsh chemicals on the rubber trim. Chemicals from the car washes and such are very caustic and can cause more damage than they solve. While it's not going to do it after one or two trips to these establishments, odds are that repeated exposure to this type of environment (along with other factors), certainly can't help your cause.

Best of luck with your new 'baby'. Let us know if we can help out in any way shape or form!!

Windows Seals

The last car went through the car wash bi-weekly, if not weekly...

I picked up some Meguiar's #40 Rubber/Vinyl Conditioner/Cleaner.

Thanks for the input...

I was looking at your pictures and noticed your floor savers, at least in the rear. May I asked where they came from?

Thanks again,

Murph

Those are called Husky Liners. There are oodles of places that sell them... I think my original set came from Bass Pro Shops.

I use MOTHERS bumper black & trim. I have tried everything else and it seems to melt off when it rains. I had faded grey & black plastic and it did a real nice job that lasted.
