Looking for opinions...
I'm just taking a survey before I do my wax work.
If you were going to put down a synthetic wax by hand, what type of hand applicator pad would you use, closed cell foam pad, terry cloth covered pad or a microfiber covered pad and what are the pros/cons of each?
Thank you.

Hi Pete... I don't have a boatload of experience with the MF applicators however, I have been using them more recently... I'll give your question a stab but, before I do, tell me about your finish. Do you have slight swirling or is it pretty optically perfect? I ask because different applicators can yield different degrees of abrasion to work a slightly abrasive product (not sure which synthetic you're going with though)...
The foam pad would be the least... the MF and terry would be a little more abrasive. If you were wanting to remove blemishes, the latter of the three would be my choice but, if it's in very good shape already, I might consider a foam applicator with only minimal 'downward' pressure with the applicator....

Hi RP,
Thanks for the info and quick reply!
A little background on the paint and what I'm shooting for: It's Dark Toreador Red and she's pampered with Meguiar's Gold Class wash/shampoo weekly and thankfully, no swirls or blemishes of any kind so far. I wont even mention the wax I was using before, but I'm not happy with it anymore. Originally I wanted the warm depth of a carnauba, which would really show off that color but with the Florida sun and heat, it just won't last long. I park in a covered garage at work, but the rest of the time, it's outside.
I've considered a synthetic-carnauba hybrid, but lately I've been leaning towards the glossy, shiny, brilliance of a syn. I would also like a shell-like protection that lasts longer. I tried Mother's FX once, and I may be going back to it. FX has many proponents in this forum.
From your post, it looks like the foam applicator would be the best pad to use, but if you can expand on this or suggest anything else, I'm listening.
Thanks again,
P
