I need help with waxing.

I just got my dad's old 2000 F-150, about a week ago. This is my first car, as I just turned 16. I have never waxed a car in my life, so I went out and bought some Nu Finish "Once a year car polish."

I need to know who to do this. There are no instructions on the back, and I dont want to mess this up. So can you please tell me how/ how much to apply, rub, and how long to wait before I removed the polish/wax.

I know this is a stupid question, but I need to start somewhere, and I appreciate your help.

The directions should be on the bottle. To sum them up:

1. Wash the truck
2. Dry the truck
3. Ensure the truck is cool & not in direct hot sun
4. With an applicator pad (sold in packs and dirt cheap at your local auto store) dab some wax onto it, then apply to section of truck. Apply is small circles and apply nice thin coats.
5. The wax will dry fairly quickly... when it gets 'hazy' take a clean microfiber towel and remove the wax to a nice shine.
6. Repeat until your done.

While it's good to wax, if you really want to make pop's old truck stand out from the crowd, search for the this forum. You'll find out about clay, polish, techniques and other tricks for making your truck shine like new. Good luck!

Alright thanks alot. But one more question.

Once I add the wax on, how long should I leave it on for?

I'm not sure if the wax you bought is a cleaner wax or not so hopefully someone here knows. If your dad never waxed and cared for the truck, then it might be worth going to get a bottle of Mother's Cleaner Wax. I've found it to be the best and easiest to use that you can get locally.

But, anyway, you will apply the wax and wait for a few mins. With a wax like you're using, you don't really need to let it sit on the paint for a long time. If you can easily run a towel across the haze and it removes the haze instead of smears it around, then you're good to buff it off.

Congrats on the new truck and 2000 is a good year. It's the year of my old truck

It's not about an amount of time. Weather conditions ( heat, humidity etc.)
vary and so will the amount of time it takes for the wax to be ready to come off.

Follow the directions above and you will be happy with the result.

Good luck

lol. it looks like just dirt, but spray painting the front and back wheel well black really looks sharp. Do the same to the trailer hitch if you got that too.

That's right. I was able to buy my first car when I was 26: A 1987 4x4 Mitsubishi Trok. Ran it like I stole it for 100K miles until transmission (standard 5 speed) died.

Buldog88, congradulations on the truck, it looks awesome

By the way, welcome to the forum. Since your new to all of this, I'd recommend going through the forum and reading through all the topics that interest you. If you have any questions, don't be afraid to ask. Oh and don't worry about asking something someone already asked if you are still confused. I think RockPick has a template already set up to respond to Clay questions, he's just copying and pasting

Wow, you are lucky for your dad to give you a sweet truck like that. Looks good, those wheels are hard to keep looking good. If you have wheel weights on the outside of rims, i would take them off, and take wheels to get balanced with weights on inside of rim.

The weights will corode and detroy your rims.

You might also want to do the fog light mod. I did it too mine and i love it, makes the high beams and parking lights work with fogs. So the fogs don't turn off with high beam.
