paint scratch update

hey thanks for all the help rp and others

i got done last week and took some pictures today and added two to my gallery...take a look, tell me what you think

https://www.f150online.com/galleries...w.cfm?num=8315

(to update those who never saw my last post) i had a chip about 3 inches long on the bottom on my tailgate, which i think line-x might have sanded down to far during their prep. process....anyways it looks new again

here are the steps i took

1. clean area
2. sand very little to remove all chipping paint (2000 grit)
3. add touch-up paint
4. sand again, but this time with 2000 grit and water (wet sandin)
5. once smooth, i let dry for 5 hours
6. after 5 hours, took my cheap $25 craftsman buffer with scratch-x
7. applied about 3 coats with buffer and one by hand

i think i did a really good job, infact i know exactly where it the scratch was and i cant even tell it ever there

thanks again, i was a little nervous sanding on my paint at first, but went through it with the proper steps provided by RP and it worked out.

Glad that worked out for you... it's certainly time consuming but, with a bit of patience, it can be done!

Nice work!

Looks great. Makes one feel good when you can do the job yourself and have excellent results without having to pay someone else to do the job.

Looks like it turned out great!

That was a pretty nasty looking mark -- to have it come out to the point where even you can't see it is a pretty good statement!
