Toolbox
Toolbox
I have a fading toolbox on my truck I think its called oxidized or something. My friend said it would buff off but what would yall recommend using along with the buffing. Its diamound plate.
A good metal polish should do the trick for you. My suggestion is to run by your local 'mart' store and pick up some a 'brand name' polish of some sorts. This should, if executed well, do a pretty good job of taking care of the oxidation on the metal.
If you want to step it up a notch and make it look killer, I'd highly recommend Heavy Metal Polish. I'd start with the MEDIUM (green) on the box and, if that didn't cut the mustard, go to the heavy cut product and then back to the green.
It will come back to life... just need to give it some elbow grease and some time.

Whatever it is, if you can get it off, polish up the aluminum and then throw some clearcoat on it.

Might make sense if you have a quality drill already (PC, DeWalt, Milwaukee etc)
Has anyone heard of using jewelers rouge and lighter fluid to make a metal polish? My father in law is a trucker and he ran across someone that had made some up. It does a great job on chrome, aluminum & stainless steel.
Yes, you could "make" your own polish. BUT there are so many combinations of ingredients and mixing the right ratios that it would take a lot of practice to get it right.
Much easier to just buy a polish.

Rockpick is right on with the "Heavy Metal" stuff. Don't waste your $$$ on any of the "white" polishes because they just won't cut it.
Of course, you could always use a protable grinder on it
