dash care.

hi i am not so new as though i am returning, i used to be under the name Stoner150 about a year ago until i sold my truck, now i am buying another truck. i would like to thank most of the guys on here, especially RockPick and Boss_429, most of the information i got i used on my truck, the car i had after that, and what i will have next. i also used the information to start my own mobile car detailing business over the summer, and had a pretty loyal following, due to cheap prices and great work. i will probably do the same this summer. but thanks to all those who helped me.

but let me continue with my question, what type of dash protectant do you use or recomend, latley i have only been using a wet rag, becuase i don't like the way armorall or any other product leaves it shinny, to me it makes the dash look older, my uncles f150, which is not taken care of at all, has a layer of dust on the dash and has never been tuched with any kind of cleaning product always looked newer than my dash did. thanks

Being that it's a 97', you're probably going to want to hit it with some type of cleaner before you apply a protectant.

I would recommend All Purpose Cleaning Wipes to clean the dash. These will be very safe to use on all of your vinyl and plastic. Make sure to get the surface clean before applying any protectant...

As for a protectant, there are several folks here that all have a differing opinion. My personal opinion is NO dressing on the dash but, some like to have a bit of a gloss up there. From the sounds of it, you're not one of the folks that wants it 'all slicked up in there jiggy yo'.

For our types, I perfer a low gloss protectant like more of a matte finish, I like Natural Shine Vinyl and Rubber Protectant. As the name implies, it's not a high-gloss product and offers just enough shine and excellent UV protection.

The drawback, it's slightly (and I mean slightly) sticky and thus, you may find yourself cleaning your dash on a more frequent basis depending upon the dust situation in your environment.

It really is a great product. I'd highly recommend it. I most recently saw this product ON THE SHELF at Autozone.

If you just want to keep the dust cleaned off, use Pledge. It leaves a semi-gloss finish and repels dust. It's color safe and will not turn white on you like a lot of vinyl dressings. The only minor drawback is that it won't have any uv protection (but neither does dust).
I currently have NXT tech protectant on my dash (cleaned the truck yesterday) and I'll see if that gets sticky or not. I love it for the outside trim but may end up going back to Pledge for the interior. I like clean but not greasy or slimy.

I use NXT Tech Protectant. It leave a very nice shine at first, but after about a day it loses its "wet" shine and deep conditions your dash. I was very afraid after I applied it b/c it looked really wet, but it has now been two weeks and it still has a clean matte finish with very little dust collection.

Don't get me wrong...

The NXT Protectant is pretty good stuff but, to be frank, I haven't utilized it all that much because of my love of Vinylex... that and I simply don't utilize products like this on my interior... only exterior.
