Removing Ventvisors
Removing Ventvisors
I have a supercab and some ventvisors were bought and installed onto my truck as a present while I was gone. I don't like the back window ones (I have a supercab), It looks like they took the little scraper that came with the kit to clean and scrape above the rear windows. If I remove these is there an easy way to fix the paint without getting the truck resprayed?
Sorry no pics, My digicam isn't back yet. I mailed it and haven't recieved it yet.

Pictures should would be nice but, I understand...
So, from the sounds of it, you have tiny 'scrapes' and scratches probably induced by a sharp blade?
Can you feel them with a fingernail?

I removed my Ventvisors last summer and installed the WeatherTechs. I just pulled them off slowly and it didn't damage the paint. They did leave a lot of the adhesive foam behind. 3M Adhesive and Wax Remover works very well to remove the adheasive without damaging the paint. Just use cotton ***** to apply and terry cloth towels to remove. I found that to work the best. To be safe I would test it on a small area first. Just don't use it out in direct sunlight and make sure you have plenty of ventilation. I had to stop a couple times because I got very lightheaded. Also wash the stuff off of the paint when you're finished.

The bad news is that, if you can feel them with your fingernail, you might not be able to get them totally back to par.
The good news is that we can try but, it's going to be VERY tricky. Tricky because the majority of scratches that can be felt by a human fingernail are typically deep enough that they may have gone through the factory clearcoating.
Here's another question... is the paint the same color on this spot? The data that I'm hoping to obtain is if the clear coating has been totally penetrated and the scratch has gone through or down to the base coat. In short, if your truck is red, what color is the scratch at it's deepest point?
