Guess I wasn't the only one. My old stang with a 302 I can wash that Carbeurated beauty with a fire hose and not worry, but fahget about the 5.4. I build engines, trannies, even going to make a Shelby Cobra replica, old stang just became a donor, but I hate the comp controlled stuff. Go figure I do IT/Telecom for a living.

I do it in my driveway. Spray on the kerosene based degreaser from a can (Gunk, etc), let it sit 5 or 10 minutes, then blast away with 1600psi. I never get closer then say 12 inches to individual components, and never had a single idle or shorting problem. . Granted the truck smells like kerosene for a few days, but a good cleaning will last 5-6 months. A small price to pay.

After I'm done washing I dry the engine off with comprssed air, and then hose it down with foaming tire dressing. You know, the spray and walk away type. I then let it sit again for a while, then wipe off the excess. It's not as greasy as most tire dressings, and will not pick up as much dust and dirt.,,,,98

What is safe to use to clean up the electrical wires and stuff? Dirty wires makes the whole engine comp. look crappy.I was thinking wiping it down with WD-40 or some sort of electrical cleaner maybe? How do you guys do it?

Armor all wipes, or tire dressing (anything with silicone) will clean it and keep the insulation from drying out and cracking...

Wow, I have pressure washed the 5.4 in my 04 F150 a few times and have had no problems. I have never had a problem detailing motors, even when I ran a detailing shop. One time the engine light in a MAxima stayed on and another F250 had the wipers stay on for about 10 min.

Wink

I pressure washed my ex's Nissan Pulsar once. It looked great, but took it a week to dry out and run correctly. So much for the superiority of overseas cars, hehe.,,,,98
