Buy Hand or PC 7424

Is it time to take the leap in detailing and get a decent random orbital polisher?

Is it worth it?

I was looking at the Porter Cable 7424 random orbital Polisher.

Has anyone used this and is it any good?

I have used buffers in the past but none that were really that good.

I sure there have been 500 posts on this topic but my eyes are bleeding from reading so many posts

I would appreciate all your help.

It was worth it to me. I use it to remove very minor scratches, and swirls. Also use it to apply and buff Meguiar's #26 wax off. You can go to PAC - Porter Cable , it is on sale now. Plus at this price you will get free shipping.

I think a quote by Barry Meguiar in one of his videos pretty much sums it up........... "Using this machine, you can achieve results never before obtainable by hand"!

It DOES NOT replace a direct driver rotary buffer when it comes to repairing serious paint defects, but in most other cases, the PC allows the enthusiast to achive professional results without the safety concerns of a rotary buffer.

Coastal Tool for the 7424

I went to Coastal Tool and would go there again. It is only $119.95 there instead of $139.++ and you get both weights with it too. Good people to do business with.

I like mine a lot. You will also need get some buffing pads for it too.

Shoot! this is a really helpful article about getting started with your 7424. The pictures are all gone now, but the article is still a good reference for you. This article plus Boss_429, RP, APT, and others got me off to a good start with mine.

Here's another great link for the PC:

The page is HUGE, so it may take a while to load with a slow connection.

Before you buy elsewhere, you should check around on meguiarsonline.com. I'm not at liberty to point you directly to the KICK BUTT DEAL that they're offering but, you should probably check.

The Meguiar's DA comes with a full lifetime warranty and comes complete with a velcro backing and a pad... check it out.

I picked up my PC 7336SP w/ 6" counterweight, a sanding pad, and a buffing pad for ~ $100 (w/Tax) at the local Lowe's. Your pricing may vary, but may be worth the visit.

Yep. NP...

That's pretty much a KILLER deal that they're offering over there and I suspect that it'll be suspended in the VERY near future as they don't want to depleat inventory prior to the Christmas rush (that's a little bit of insider information btw...)

If now I could only find a better/quicker way to tape off all my trim pieces with masking tape.
