Painting bedcaps

Is it possible to paint the bedcaps? Mine are gray and have wax stains from the dealership detailing plus I really don't care for the color. I would like to paint them black or close to the color of my truck. I would like to do it before I put my topper back on. Any suggestions?

Krylon makes a spray paint designed for plastics. You can get it at any major department store.

The key to any paint job is the prep. You have wax overspray imbedded in the plastic that must be removed. Remove the bed-caps and use a high pressure to get a majority of the wax off. You then need to use a solvent thet will cut the wax but not damage the plastic - good luck here, maybe mineral spirits... Wash with soap and water to remove solvent and dry completely.

Good Luck,

T

be careful.

I'm not sure about the 04's, but the 97-03 bed caps were NOT removable. If you removed them you could not reinstall. Im sure the 04's are the same, but Im not 100% on that.

So either paint them while installed or buy new ones and paint them before installing.
