An end to water spots?

I was talking to my father this evening and complaining about the nasty water spots that the tap water at my house leaves on a car. He said that if I had a "system" like he has we may not have this problem. He has well water and I know that he does have a water softener but also some sort of filter system. Would a water softener cut down on the nasty water spots or is it most likely that filter that would take some of the nastiness out of our hard city water? I think that I can get a softener system pretty cheap so I'm hoping that this may be a solution for the spots.

Thanks!

Yes, it'll cut them down. No doubt about it.

Your individual water chemistry will dictate how well it works though.

Rather than invest in an expensive water softener, just get a Mr.Clean car wash kit. Even if you don't use the soap feature, the final rinse water passes through a filter and doesn't leave spots.
