RP...What are you learning?
Today we're focusing on wet sanding, rotary use, DA use, and engine compartment detailing I believe. They're bringing in a few rental cars for us to 'play with' to learn the 80 series products as well.
It should be a very informative day in the Meguiar's garage. Here's a link to the Ferrari Class that they did this past weekend....

#80 (Speed Glaze)
#82 (Swirl Free Polish)
#83 (Dual-Action Cleaner Polish)
#84 (Compound Power Cleaner)
#85 (Diamond Cut Compound 2.0)
Looking specifically at a abrasive rate, #85 is the most abrasive on the scale, followed by #84, #83, #82, and then #80 (in that order). I will tell you that we worked with all of these products today and, my personal experience showed that #84 cut better than #85 and #82 worked a little better than #83 for me on this rental car that we're thrashing and then fixing.
I don't work for Meguiar's but, it's certainly a hobby that's gone nearly out of control. I do, however, moderate the message boards over at www.meguiarsonline.com and thus, they have brought me out here to Irvine to attend this 3-day class highlighting all of the Meguiar's line (marine, furniture, consumer automotive, and professional automotive) so that I may be better able to help out with questions over on MOL.
After today's demonstration and hands on training, I can honestly say that I've learned more in two days here than I have over my entire life driving vehicles (well over 12 years). I thought I had some of this stuff figured out, and I did, but only to a certain extent. Meguiar's really offers a HUGE product line; each with their own individual positive aspects for certain problems and situations.
The entire "Detailer" line is changing. All of them. Engine Coat is gone after April 26th. The new line will consist of all new names but have very similar to exact characteristics.
For example, my favorite product, Final Detail, is now going to be called Last Touch. I don't know the other specifics (as we're covering the full Detailer's line tomorrow in class) but, I know that it's changed. The change was brought about by upcoming VOC (environmental) regulations being rolled out in California (and soon the rest of the US by 2008). The other products, unfortunately, didn't meet that standard and thus, had to be reformulated. Instead of calling everything '2.0', they came up with a new naming system.
The new Detailer Line will include:
Super Degreaser, Safe D-Greaser, All Purpose Cleaner, Hyper Wash, Shampoo Plus, Glass Cleaner Concentrate, Wheel Brightener, X-Press Liquid Wax, Last Touch Spray Detailer, Body Solvent, All Season Dressing, Silicone-Free Dressing, Hyper Dressing, Accent Dressing, and Leather Cleaner & Conditioner. As many will notice immediately, Citri-Gel, Engine Coat, and the Detailer's Line Clays are gone.
I'll try to post back more information as I should have more details tomorrow after class and certification testing.

RP,
While you're out there, could you possibly inquire as to what quadruple jointed life form designed the bottle for NXT? I bought a bottle to experiment with last week. (Uses so far: the ex's Oxford White Escape, the kitchen stove and the Rancho shocks on the back of my FX4. Results to follow after a full test in all situations.) Is it just me, or is there absolutely no comfortable way to grip that bottle?

In a word, MARKETING.
Keep in mind that this is a consumer product and is being offered in venues like Pep Boys, Target, and Wal-Mart (just to name a few). It is important, in today's day and age, for a product to reach out and grab the consumer as they walk by it. Meguiar's name recognition is very high and they have a good portion of the market share from a consumer standpoint. The bottle, flash, and ultimately, the product, help to ensure that Meguiar's continues to dominate the consumer line.
Hey though, it's not the bottle, it's whats inside that counts!

Did I know that you were a geologist as well Deemo? I can't remember if we've talked about that or not. Oh yeah, you've just got good taste on the same vehicle/color/King Ranch. It's just a curse of good taste!
