What else do I need?

Ok, I finally wore out my elbow detailing my truck and wife's mustang so I have ordered the PC.
I now need to order the polishers, waxes and pads to go with this.
I am going to place my order with Meguiars later today and I just want to be sure I have everything I need.

I am coming from using the Gold Class consumer products so I am not that familiar with the professional products offered but here is what I have based on the suggestions in this forum:

1. Swirl Remover (#9)

2. Show Car Glaze (#7)

3. Hi-Tech Yellow Wax (#26)

4. 2 6.5" SoftBuff Cutting Pads

5. 2 6.5" SoftBuff Polishing Pads

6. 2 6.5" Softbuff Finishing Pads

Now here are my questions:
First, is there anything that I am missing?
Also, has anyone used the microfiber towels available through Meguiar's?
I currently use terry cloth towels for everything from applying and removing polishes to washing and drying the vechicle, inside and out. I would like to try the microfiber towels but I want tomake sure I get good quality with whatever I order.
Do I need to order anything else for the PC?
I ordered through Coastal Tools and it included a 6" counter weight and a 6" Hook and Loop Contour Pad. Here is the link: Coastal Tool
And one last question, is there anything on the market that will remove scratches? I am not talking about the swirl marks or spider webs but actual scratches that are not very deep but are very noticable. My dog jumped out of the back yesterday and in the process scratched up the side of the truck. Thankfully I was stopped and the leash and coller slipped off her head after she made her daring escape (on the way to the vet) and she wasn't hurt but I can't say the same for my truck!

Anyways, I know this was long but I try to take all the extra steps to take care of my vechicles and I just want to make sure I have all my bases covered.

Thanks for the help.

Gary

First, glad your pooch is okay and sorry about your truck...

On your products, it looks like you have the basic necessities. If I were you, I'd add a bottle of NXT Tech Wax to your order from Meguiar's. It's a synthetic that seems to have good durability and great gloss. Top the NXT with the #26 and I think you'll be in love!

MF towels from Megs... I have two of their waffle weave drying towels. THEY'RE FANTASTIC. Other than that, I don't have experience with the 'Ultimate Wipe' (Meg's MF towel).

You're set for the PC. I ordered mine from Coastal as well. I do, however, like the velcro backing plate from Meguiar's better though but, either will work. The Meg's one has more padding to it IMO.

Having not seen the scratches that you're talking about, it's nearly impossible to say what to utilize. For starters, I'd try to attack them with the PC, the #9, and a polishing pad. From there, if it doesn't work, maybe you should post some pictures of the said scratches and we can better decide...

Hope that helps!

Thanks RP!

I am going to see how the #9 works on those scratches I mentioned and will post the results.
I appreciate your feedback and can't wait to try all these products out on my truck and wife's mustang.

Thanks again!

RUSSELL you got the same starting lineup as me for the Spring. I have also added the NXT tech wax as suggested. I have not had a chance to try our this combo yet (or the new PC) because of the weather thus far, but how to give it a go this weekend.

Two questions for anyone who can help though...can the finishing pad be used to apply polish, or should it? Was not sure if I could go with this totally non-aggressive pad for my brand new truck in applying #7 and produce results. Or should I just not worry about it and use the polishing pad? Am I overthinking this?

NXT Tech wax and #26 will be applied by hand however and hand rubbed with MF towels.

Finally...for my wife's two year old black car, I also purchased Meguiar's DC Paint Cleaner from their consumer line. Should this be applied via the PC (assuming with the polishing pad) or by hand? Still not sure if I will even use this or not since her paint is in good shape, but since I bought it, may as well use it.

UPDATE <----> UPDATE <----> UPDATE

My PC DID NOT come with a backing plate. That being said, I believe you'll need to order one from Meguiar's!!

Mine simply came with a pad that already had the 'connector' built into the pad. Obviously, I don't think I'd let this particular pad anywhere near a painted surface that I owned but, it does come in the box. I suppose you could use it on your tires for 'tire shine' product application eh?

I ordered mine from Coastal and it came with the pre-attached 5" backing plate/pad and the 6" pad and counterweight in another box. Did you order the 7424 from them? I may have misunderstood your reply but if you did I would contact them.

I agree about the orig 5" pad that comes with it. It feels a little rough to use on the paint on the truck. Bet you could get some shiny tires by the time you were done doing them

Yep! The kit from Coastal comes with a 6" Hook and Loop backing plate, a 6 1/2 pad/plate combo, and a 5" & 6" counterweight.

I then bough the 5" Hook & Loop backing plate from Premium Auto Care, along with some Meguiar's pads.

Yep, and I'd tell them about it. Check here, and look at the "Bonus Kit Equipment"!

You have a nice arsenal of products to start with. I might make a couple of suggestions though. Meguiars makes a product called DACP that is an excellent prep polish. It has diminishing abrasves in it. It's a little more aggressive than the #9, but with the diminishing abrasives it will leave the finish ready to go to a final polish. For your final polish, #7 is good stuff, but many people have had some problems with removal and streaking. A much more forging polish is #81 or #82 and the results have been just as outstanding. You might also want to get some clay. A good test to see if you need to clay the car is to lightly rub your hand over the surface. If it feels slightly rough, then the clay will take off most any contaminant and leave the surface glass smooth. You can them go to the polishing process. People have had trouble with the Meguiars Clay, and I would suggest finding some Clay Magic or Mothers Clay kit. Good luck with your detailing, as you have the tools to do a top nothc job.
