Detail questions...

My new Screw is here, and now the work/fun of keeping it clean begins... I've seen and heard a lot about the following products, and am wondering about the forum's opinion on the following:

1. Eagle 1 Tire/wheel cleaner, is it safe? Won't dull the finish, etc..

2. Meguiar's Quick Detailer (Wal Mart). I've heard Boss refer to Meg's Final Detail as is favorite detailer... Also on Premiumautocare.com I've seen Meg's Final Inspection. Which is which, and which is more user friendly?

3. Rain X spray for glass - does this work? IE - more effective than waxing the glass?

4. I've seen 2 water blades for drying, California Water Blade (Wal Mart), and Wipeout (Autozone). Any thoughts on these, do they work as intended?

Thanks...

I love all of Meguairs products. I use meguiars yellow #26 wax. it wipes off as easily as it goes on and looks good. Both of the trucks in my sig were waxed with 26 but the pics dont do it justice.

The best glass cleaner has to be Eagle One. its great
*TIP:: Wax the outside of your windows(except windshield) with #26 then use Eagle One glass cleaner on the inside. You cant even tell you have glass when your done.

Meguairs Final Inspection/Quick Detailer work great as a quick polish. It smells good too...

I use "The Absorber" chamois when i dry my truck, although my waterblade does work pretty well. I like to use the blade, then final dry with the chamois.

I HIGHLY reccomend using Mothers Chrome polish or Turtle Wax chrome polish on your chrome, especially the front end, cause it helps those pesky bug guts to come off easier...

KTNC,

1. Never heard of any issues with the Eagle One Tire/Wheel cleaner doing any damage. Some people really like the stuff.

2. The Quick Detailer is from Meguiar's consumer line. Pretty good QD. The Final Detail is from their Detailer's series, and gives the most "POP" to the finish, partially due to the silicone content. The Final Inspection is from the Professional line, and is body shop safe (no silicones). Of the three, the Final Inspection is probably the most "user friendly". Still, I prefer the FD.

3. I've heard mixed reviews on the Rain X............ I don't use it.

4. Some people like the CWB, some don't. I happen to be one that doesn't. I prefer a high quality WW drying towel.

I'm sure that others have a different take on some of that stuff.

KTNC,

I've recently discovered the Mequiar's NXT Generation line. I've only used the protectant so far (been too cold to do much else) and I am impressed (applied it prior to washing).

The detailing site (Autopia) speaks highly of it, especially for dark colors.

On the wife's Silver Grand Marques I've had extremely good results with Mequiar's Number 6 (cleaner wax) followed by Number 26 (Hi-Tech Yellow wax). To really make the Silver pop I topped it with a coat of Cherry Wet Wax. The Cherry Wet really brings out the Silver but didn't do as good on my dark truck.

If you want even more information try this site . . .

. . . you can find anything you want to know about detailing your truck.

Remember, detailing is not work, it's fun . . .

Good advice. I've learned tons on the autopia website. I thought I knew enough about detailing until I went there and checked it out. It's amazing the wealth of information that's available on there, plus there is very little, if any, bickering on that site. Just a bunch of enthusiasts and pros sharing information. Do a search for a member named scottwax. He does some of the best details I've seen and has great information on many products.

Comment on Water Blade...

I've utilized one of these in the past and I have three or four tiny scratches. I can, with great certainty, tell you that they were directly caused by either 'user error' or the blade itself.

It has a tendency to 'hang' when you're going down the vehicle and, when it hangs, it will smack that gigantic hard plastic grip onto your paint. Also, in turn, you do run the risk of picking up a stray grain of 'grit' or sand and dragging it on your paint. Both instances have happend to me.

If you want a Cali Water Blade, pay for shipping and mine is yours.

Save your $ and buy some quality waffle weave MF towels like Boss mentioned.

Hi to all,
I have a 02 HD and have only 8k on it, but during those 8k it went threw a wicked winter. So now the under carage is a mess is there any easy way to clean it? I have a 4000psi pressure washer but its hard to tell if its clean cuz once everything is wet it all looks clean.

Any suggestions? Thanks

I polish and wax my windshield and rain stands no chance when I'm going over 40-45mph.

I just use polish on my chrome wheels, and it really cleans them up well.

No blade, just micro fiber

Quick Detailer works good for me.
