How to get hood open?

How do you get the hood open if the cable release comes undone?

This is on a 97 F150

Not sure. Haven't investigated much yet. Which way does the latch move that holds the hood closed? Is it possible to reach in with a flat piece of metal and move the latch? Maybe use a carpenters square or something?

best bet would probally be to try and get the cable with some pliars...
