You Da Man RP

Great post RP. I have copy and pasted your response in a Word document for future reference. We need to Get Mike Phillips over at Meguiars to set you up with a lifetime supply of product for being such a great sales rep for them. BTW, what do you use in replace of #40? I use it and am fairly happy with it but I'm always looking for the best product.

Hey, I'm all for passing my name on to Meguiars if you know a contact there. I push their stuff like an eskimo ice salesman... LOL!

Okay, hold on to your seats, I don't use a Meguiars product for a protectant.... I use VINYLEX. *gasp*

in the short time i've been around here rp does talk alot about meguiars.

but in his defense, there are alot of people who have tried/researched different products. a friend of mine swears by anything that is from griots, and he says the 2001 stuff isn't to bad. anything from turtle wax is garbage. i had to laugh when i looked at the 2001 stuff and found out it'smade by turtle wax!

i think the best thing you can do is read the posts. if something sounds good, get a small amount of whatever it is the discussion is about. try it yourself. just because rp or 01 or boss 429 says it's good doesn't mean you'll like it. but at least they are commenting based on experience. if it doesn't work for you, try something else.

i'm still trying to find the best combination for the time, money, and effort i have available. but posts like this help everyone at least get started in a good direction.

My 2c. Meguiars does make too many products, but only because they have like 4 product lines. But, each line does not have too many products IMHO. Does the average Joe need 20 steps? No, but that does not mean they are useless.

Here is the condensed recomendation:

Dawn wash
Clay
Remove swirls
polish
glaze (optional dependig on final product)
sealant
carnauba

Maintain with car shampoo and quick detailer.

A week to detail? Depends how bad the condition is. I usually do that full procedure twice a year with follow up coats od carnauba throught the summer when I have time.

Stay away from Gold Class liquidwax. It just does not belong on a daily driver.

Where to get Meguairs products? I get mine from a local Sherwin Williams Automotive store. Or, you can order yourself.

FWIW, there is no one company that makes the best product for each purpose. I use many brands as well and I really don't care what others use because I have the products I like.

It's not perfect by any means. I see places on the paint all the time that I'd like to deal with but just don't have the time or simply can't do anything about them. Tis life.

I just tried to write a post that would help the masses with the confusing world of waxes and polishes and, more specifically, Meguiars waxes and polishes (as they were directly asked about).

Yes, I push Meguiars repeatedly but, it is only because I've used it, know it, and know that it yields results that continually exceed my expectations. I've always been one to share knowledge of a quality product that does what it says (as I would expect anyone on here to do). Someone here, not sure who, turned me on to the entire Meguiars Mirror Glaze system and I've been using it ever since. And, like the text of my post reads, I certainly can't take credit for what I've learned... great folks like Intel486, Boss_429, and a plethora of other people guided me to this point. To be a good student, you have to have a good teacher. I don't know it all... never will. Like I said, I just wanted to answer a question that was asked by a fellow enthusiast, in depth, and make it useful so that anyone could use it. That's all.
