Unhappy Paint Checking

Have had my F-150 4x for three months now - a '98 with the ford fire engine red paint. I went to polish the hood last night and noticed that the paint has begun checking on the hood. Went to my local body guy and he informs me that it is due to heat build up under the hood and happens usually on the black and red finishes. Do you know if Ford make a pad for under the hood to disapate heat and is anyone else out there dealing with this problem???

Yes, there is a pad, or insulation blanket that attaches to under the hood to help sheild the hood from the heat generated by the engine.

paiint checking

I found oout from my ford dealer this morning that they didn't start making the pad until 2001. Luckily the hood has remained the same and I ordered it. It will not help the damage that is done though.

I didn't know that, then again I have an 01 that has the pad and "assumed" opps...

At least you can get it and stop future damage.
