Do MF towels melt?

This may sound odd, but it seems my micro-fiber towels have a tendency to melt. I was wiping off my hood today at lunch and just before I finished I noticed that there was suddenly some odd streaks on the hood. It was about 95 degrees out and I have a dark blue truck, so obviously the hood was VERY hot. In fact, it almost burned my hand. Granted, my MF towels are the cheap ones sold at Wally World, but since most MF's have the same basic composition (although sometimes different percentages) I was wondering if anyone else had noticed this. FWIW, I was able to buff off the streaks with a cotton towel. Also, in case it makes a difference, half the hood has Zaino on it and the other half has Platinum on it (both had the mf streak).

First, MF's do/can melt. However, your streaking problem was QDing a hot surface. You might want to avoid doing that in the future.

Not QD'ing. Just brushing some light dust off the hood. Apparently I either pressed too hard, or left the towel in one spot too long. Won't be doing that again.

G8RDave,

Whatever the case, you probably want to avoid doing "anything" to a paint surface while it's hot. The MF's could have been moving some of the existing product. They also could have been "bleeding" some dye from the towel. Did you wash all your MF's once or twice before using?

Now that I've looked closer at the towel it does seem like part of it (although very small) did in fact melt. No, it did not melt hard (as far as I could tell). Pretty sure it wasn't moving product around (thought about that). It was very hard to buff out with just a cotton towel. Yeah, I know its best not to mess with a hot painted surface, but..but...it was dusty!!!

I only use my Calif. duster to remove dust. I would think even the MF towels may scratch (if removing dust), is that possible?

I thought about that too, but I figured the hood was so hot it would melt the parrafin wax off my Cali duster. Form now on I'll just wait till the truck cools off.

I wouldn't touch my paint job with a synthetic. 100% cotton all the way.

I had the same opinion about it several months ago .... then I bought some 'cheap-o' MF towels... all I can say is 'WOW'...

They are REALLY nice! I've since upgraded to some yosteve.com towels... and they're AWESOME!

Can they be washed or are they a one time use? If they can be washed how long do they last?

I might have to try them out. You said it was your first time trying them right? So how many did you buy to begin with and was it enough?

Yosteve's towels are nice........... but pricey. Pakshak has some fine towels, as does NeatItems, and MicoFibre Tech's are also nice. However, for the price, it's tough to beat jtinternational's towels.
