Angry Bug Problem??? What to do??

Hi All,

I'm in Central New York, and Insect weather is here. Only having our 2002 F-150 about 3 weeks, I've been cleaning the front grill area often to remove the bug remains. I've just noticed yesterday as I was cleaning the grill, all the bugs that made their way to the radiator!! I carefully sprayed water through the grill and cleaned some of the mess,,,,but not all.

I know someone out there has the answer on what to do and how to prevent the mess on the radiator.

May I also ask about what everyone uses to clean bugs off the paint/grill too?

Is powerwashing a viable option ?

Thanks in advance!
Mark

I've heard of one person actually installing a 'bug screen' behind the grill before the radiator that can be replaced. This was a custom fab job that involved a long trip to Lowes and some 'mesh material' similar to that found on sliding porch doors. I'll see if I can find that forum but, it was quite a while ago that I saw it...

Oh good lord...

A bug explodes on your hood at 85mph down the interstate, you're damn sure going to thave bug guts on your paint.

Let's be realistic about the products that we're pushing.

I can say this, and it may be true about other waxes out there. Anyway, with Zaino on my truck the bugs come right off no problem, they don't stick where you have to scrub them off like crazy as with something that's not waxed or a cheap wax. I would imagen the top lines of Mequires and Pro's and other waxes/polishes alot of you detailers talk about would act the same. I don't know I have never used them. I have always used the stuff you buy right in the stores like Pep Boys, Wal-Mart etc and they didn't work all that great.

So I would back Harley on this as far as bugs not sticking to Zaino, they don't they come right off. The key is after you wash to use the Zaino detailing spray, and if you wash at least once a week and use the detailing spray you will find it is MUCH easier to get the bugs off, at least I have compared to any other waxes I have used in the past, again store bought.

NOTE: That is as far as the hood, front bumper etc, not the radiator.

Like you said, that's true with every 'decent' product that you can buy anywhere.

If you're spending more than $0.50 per 2 minutes of spray time for your wax, it'll come off considerably easier than with no wax/anything.

I didn't mean that they don't stick to the truck period. Heck, took the truck for a drive the other day and probably had 500 little gnats on the front bumper and mickey mouse mirrors But the bugs just rinse off. Doesn't take any hard rubbing or tar/bug remover like it did when i used Liquid glass, or regular wax on my other truck.

On the front grill, bumper, lights, etc. I use Pro's Bug Guard to protect it during the drive. I then use Valugard's Omni APC to soak the bugs for awhile and then wash the vehicle and they easily come off.

For the radiator get yourself a good pressure washer.
