Wax Test

Anyone here see the wax test done by "guru reports"? They tested something like 46 different waxes (carnuba and synthetic). Pretty interesting stuff. RockPick, you won't like the results too much.

Might not like theirs but I love mine. It's all personal preference. Mine is Meguiars.

Ya, how where the different waxes/polishes rated. I would be interested in where Zaino came in at.

If memory serves me right, Zaino, and P21S came in first.

Is there a link you could post to the results? I'd like to read the writeup on this testing.

I tried looking it up and they don't show the result you have to buy it for like $9.95 at http://www.gurureports.org/cgi-bin/store/sp0001.html

www.gurureports.com charges $10 for it...

Not sure it's a freebie... I've already been hunting.

I bought it but thought it was a waste of money. It proved nothing and their testing methods weren't the best. The amount a product beads proves nothing as to whether it is still on the surface. The products were also not all applied on the same type of paint. They should have atleast had the panels stripped and repainted with the same brand of paint. Paint is porus and products react differently to different paint surfaces. Plus, how can they judge how good a product looks if they are applied on different qualities of paint? There were just too many variables.

They should have at least had some basic equipment too such as a QFM and a Glossmeter. They spent enough on printing they should have been able to find enough money to get that stuff. They probably also should have had a professional editor go over it before they had it printed...

They also didn't get into some of the other lines of products that professionals use. This thing is more of a group of guys hanging out in the backyard having some fun with wax than an end all test of wax.

Thanks for the input Intel. Interesting to know that the products weren't tested on equal ground...

I've always been suspecious of testing that is done outside of laboratory conditions as there will always be flaws and skews in the data.

Thanks again.

That’s interesting what you said Intel. I was just thinking of what kind of information was in that test because the web site don’t tell you anything about it except it was a test of something like 40 different waxes.

I would agree about the beading only because I recall reading many of your post talking about beading.

I would further agree if someone is going to test a wax/polish it should be on the same type of surface with the same type of paint and the same color to see what that same color looks like with different brands.

I would think another interesting test would be a test on light colors and darks colors to see which brands do better on either or both light and dark colors.

So, Intel you have any spare sheet metal laying around your house?
