Unhappy peeling tailgate paint ?

HELP!

My brother-in-law has a 98 white F150 which is starting to peel paint on the tailgate very badly. Anyone else had this problem? Anyone see this problem? I know this happened with some trucks from the 80s, but thought it would have been resolved by now.

THANKS.

ive heard of the paint on the tailgate going bad but i doubt you can cash it in under warrenty now though. Is the truck waxed regularly or is there little care given to it?

peeling paint

I'd imagine that he does NOT wax it regularly, though he does seem to keep it clean.

Long time, no post, I know. I been hanging out at the mach1registry.com
lately, because of my new obsession....

Anyway, I still love my '99 F150, but I noticed that the paint is coming off the tailgate, right on the crease near the bottom. I might not be the best about keeping it waxed, but I would think a basically vertical surface would not be the first place that neglecting the waxing would result in peeling paint. If it were the hood or roof, I would blame myself, but in this case I think ford's paint problem from the '80s is back. My dad got an F150 repainted after warranty in that case. Now that my truck is only 5 years old, and losing paint bonding, there is definitely a problem. Anybody know of a TSB or recall about this?
