Need some advice?

Here is the problem. What would you do to correct it.:
My friend had a cooler in the trunck of his hatchback and put ice in it. He left the drain open and the water leaked out and it smells horrible in the vehicle. We tried leaving the windows cracked for a month and spraying fragrance stuff in there. Short of ripping the carpet up and putting all new in. Is there anything i can buy to take the scent out. Any advice is very appreciated.

Moisture can cause mold.

I'd replace it.

Pull it out or up and see.

Give it the nose test.

Moisture caused mold to grown in the carpet. It is an organic smell then.

First you will want to call a professional to extract the interior as best he can and then run fans in the car until it is dry. You will then want to get the vehicle treated with an Ozone machine. Ozone will get everywhere and kill what is causing the smell.

If you can't find a pro locally with an ozone machine or don't know anyone with one, then you'll need something with an enzyme in it. Pro's Smoke and Odor eliminator has one. Autoint also has something with an enzyme. I'll have to look up the name of the product for you though. I'll look it up when I place an order with them later this evening.

It needs to kill the odor and simply not absorb it. There are lots of products out there that don't actually kill what is causing the odor but just absorb it. They don't last long.

You can buy a disinfectant spray for carpets at auto stores.

there,s a product called "eco-ban"...it,s at Home Depot...it,s a product that contains enzynes that will destroy the mildew witch is causing the odor...it has a eucalyptyes(SC) smell to it...applie it and wait a day and clean the area with a wet vac and mild soap...then reapply while still wet and that should do it..we use it in mass when we have a flooded apartment and it works...if you can,t find it check with a maintenance supply house for enzyme base products that control mildew or a carpet retailer.
