Question about car washes----->

90% of the time i wash and wax my truck myself but sometimes i go to the carwash and spray it off especially in the winter. I have one question about the "wax" you can spray on your car and then rinse off. Is it similar to a mist-n-shine product? Does it strip wax thats on your car? I wouldnt imagine it has very good durability but does it provide any UV protection from the sun?

Any info is appreciated!

Green_98,

If you are talking about the wax you can spray on at the car wash, I wouldn't use it. First of all, the spray wash will not get all the dirt off your vehcile............ no sense in spraying a wax (or whatever they call it) on top of dirt.

There's no shortcut to doing it right!

The spray wax you can use doesn't really apply any protective coating. It actually only stays on the paint a couple of days. There was actually a class action lawsuit against the companies that make that wax because they were saying it contained "Carnauba" when it actually doesn't contain any wax.

I agree, when ever I "have" to use a car wash I never bother with the spray on wax. Just a waste of money.

yup, when i have to use the car wash up in town, i only use it for their water and pressure washer, and use my own soap and washmit and bucket.

if you think about it....how could true wax really be sprayed on your dripping wet car....wax and water don't mix

I realize that it doesnt apply the equivialnt to a coat of hand washed then hand rubbed wax, but i was just curious to see if it provieded even a slight amount of protection or UV protectoin. I always hand wash and hand wax my truck in the summer with Gold CLass. I just hit manual bay car wash if i dont have time to do it by hand or when i go about twice a week in the winter just to do a rinse off. THanks for the replies!

UV protection is hard to prove other than the claims and labels. How are you going to show (short term, outside of a lab) that something has been/is UV protected? I think we're just going by the manufacturers' claims. When I first started waxing, I checked a lot of different brands and found that bottles of the same brand had different claims. Same brand, same product (according to the name), some says UV protection, others don't.

A little off topic but when I was a lifeguard, our manager would tell us to use sunblock with SPF 15 or higher. She said it's probably a waste of $ if you use SPF 30 or 50 or w/e. I always used SPF 30 just to be safe. Still, all my (whatever little) body hair tuned blondish (after about a week or so in the sun) even though I'm dark haired lmao. I guess here's the proof: I haven't died of skin cancer.. yet.
