Attention all Ford owners

I have a 09 F150 with 77k. My truck needs new cam phasers. I have supplied all maintenance records to my dealership. They are denying a warranty claim because they say the oil filters that I have used are aftermarket and could have been the cause of the failure. They want to open the engine to take a look, but of course on my dime if they can. I told them go ahead, but don't expect me to pay the bill. Americans are protected by the Magnuson–Moss Warranty Act. We as Canadians have nothing.

Is there anyone else that has been through this that can give suggestions? If Ford denies this I think I am going to take my case to CAMVAP. Has anybody else done this?

In Canada, we do KM, not miles. bumper to bumper is 3 years 60,000 km. Powertrain is 5 years 100,000 km.

He is well within his warranty period for the motor.

One thought I have, is aren't all filters claiming that they are "warranty approved", and that if they fail and cause engine damage that they will warranty the damages themselves? Might be something to look into. Although I personally think it was a mistake to put any old oil filter on your truck. Please tell me it was not a FRAM.

Dumb question, your going to a Ford authorized dealership right? Not just the place that you bought the truck from? They might have legal ground to stand on sadly, if your using a crap filter (not saying that you are), but go to the filter manufactures website, almost all reputable companies that manufacture "aftermarket" automotive parts have some kind of guarantee that installing their parts will not void your factory warranty, and these companies also have legal safeguards in place to protect YOU if something like this does happen. Hope that helps
